Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims priority to and the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 10-2018-0169902, filed on Dec. 26, 2018, in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the entire content of which is incorporated herein by reference.

BACKGROUND
1. Field

One or more aspects of example embodiments of the present disclosure are related to a composition, an organic layer prepared therefrom, and an apparatus (device) including the organic layer.

2. Description of the Related Art

Organic light-emitting devices are self-emission devices that may have wide viewing angles, high contrast ratios, short response times, and/or excellent characteristics in terms of brightness, driving voltage, and response speed, compared to devices in the related art.

An example organic light-emitting device may include a first electrode on a substrate, and a hole transport region, an emission layer, an electron transport region, and a second electrode sequentially stacked on the first electrode. Holes provided from the first electrode may move toward the emission layer through the hole transport region, and electrons provided from the second electrode may move toward the emission layer through the electron transport region. Carriers (such as holes and electrons) may recombine in the emission layer to produce excitons. These excitons may transition from an excited state to the ground state to thereby generate light.

When an organic light-emitting device is manufactured by a vacuum deposition process, the manufacturing cost is increased due to the use of vacuum systems. When a shadow mask is used to manufacture pixels for a full-color display, it may be difficult to manufacture high-resolution pixels.

In contrast, when a solution coating process (such as ink-jet printing, nozzle printing, screen printing, and/or spin coating is used), manufacturing may be facile and inexpensive, and a relatively excellent resolution may be obtained, compared with a case when a shadow mask is used.

A material for forming a hole transport layer in the related art using a solution coating process includes a substituent that increases solubility of the material. After the hole transport layer is coated, an emission layer is coated on the hole transport layer by a solution process. In the solution process in which the emission layer is formed, the lower hole transport layer must not be dissolved in an emission layer solution.

SUMMARY

One or more aspects of example embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward an organic layer having solubility resistance, a composition used for preparing the organic layer, and a device including the organic layer.

the high-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 1 may have a molecular weight of about 50,000 or more,

the non-arylamine-based low-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 2 may have a molecular weight of about 10,000 or less, and

*, *′, and *″ may each indicate a binding site to a neighboring atom.

The molecular weight of the high-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 1 may be a weight average molecular weight (Mw).

In Formula 1, when m is 2, two X(s) may be identical to or different from each other.

Since Formula 2 is defined as a non-arylamine-based compound, cases in which Formula 2 or Y is an arylamine-based compound (e.g., includes an arylamine group) are excluded, for example, in the description of substituents in the substituted C3-C60 carbocyclic group.

In Formula 2, when o is two or more, two or more Y(s) may be identical to or different from each other.

The term “non-arylamine-based compound”, as used herein, refers to a compound other than an arylamine compound (e.g., a compound that does not include an arylamine moiety or functional group). The term “arylamine compound”, as used herein, refers to a compound in which an aryl group is linked to N (e.g., a compound including an arylamine moiety or functional group).

The high-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 1 in the composition may have a molecular weight of about 50,000 or more, for example, about 100,000 to about 5,000,000. The high-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 1 may not (e.g., does not) include a crosslinkable functional group.

The non-arylamine-based low-molecular weight compound represented by Formula 2 may have a molecular weight of about 10,000 or less, for example, about 100 to about 8,000. The low-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 2 may not (e.g., does not) include a crosslinkable functional group. The molecular weight of the low-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 2 may be a weight average molecular weight (Mw).

The term “low-molecular-weight”, as used herein, refers to a molecular weight at which a high-molecular polymer behavior does not appear (e.g., polymer molecules having a molecular weight outside of or higher than the described range are not included).

As the molecular weight of the compound represented by Formula 2 is lower, the compound is not able to form a film, a fiber, and/or the like.

In Formulae 1 and 2, n and o are each independently a repeating unit number (integer) satisfying the molecular weight ranges of their respective compounds.

When n and o are within suitable ranges, the packing stability of the formed organic film (layer) may be reinforced, and solvent resistance of the film may be improved.

In one embodiment, X of Formula 1 in the composition may be selected from a substituted or unsubstituted fluorene derivative, a substituted or unsubstituted carbazole derivative, and a substituted or unsubstituted azepine derivative.

In one embodiment, X of Formula 1 in the composition may be represented by one selected from Formulae 2a to 2h:

Measurement of Solvent Resistance of Organic Film

Thin films, each having a thickness of 400 Å, were prepared using Inks 1 to 5, each being dried at a temperature of 230° C. for 30 minutes. Then, the ultraviolet (UV) absorbance of each thin film was measured (measurement 1).

50 μL of methyl benzoate was dropped on each thin film and left for 30 minutes, after which the solvent was absorbed by a wiper. Each thin film was left at a temperature of 100° C. for 1 minute, and the UV absorbance of each film was measured (measurement 2).

The “remaining rate” of each thin film was calculated using the following equation:

Remaining rate=(UV measurement after leaving a solvent for 30 minutes)/(UV measurement before solvent processing)=measurement 2/measurement 1

When solvent resistance is high, the difference between measurement 2 and measurement 1 should be small or little, and when solvent resistance is low, measurement 2 should be lower than measurement 1 because one or more compounds of the organic layer is dissolved and removed by the solvent (in this case, methyl benzoate). Therefore, when the remaining rate is high (close to 100%), solvent resistance is high.

The calculated remaining rates are shown in Table 1.

Referring to Table 1, it is confirmed that the organic layer prepared using the composition including the high-molecular-weight compound represented by Formula 1 having a molecular weight of 50,000 or more and the non-arylamine-based compound having a molecular weight of 10,000 or less has high solvent resistance.

Manufacture of Organic Light-Emitting Device
Example 1

As an anode, a Corning 15 Ω/cm2 (1,200 Å) ITO glass substrate was cut to a size of 50 mm×50 mm×0.7 mm, sonicated with isopropyl alcohol and pure water for 5 minutes each, and then cleaned by exposure to ultrasonic rays and ozone for 30 minutes. PEDOT-PSS was coated on the ITO glass substrate and thermally treated at a temperature of 150° C. for 30 minutes to form a hole injection layer having a thickness of 600 Å. Ink 1 was sprayed on the hole injection layer using an ink-jet process to form a hole transport layer having a thickness of 400 Å. The hole transport layer was dried at a temperature of 230° C. for 30 minutes. Compound A as a fluorescent host and Compound B as a fluorescent dopant were co-deposited on the hole transport layer at a weight ratio of 95:5 to form an emission layer having a thickness of 200 Å. Compound ET1 was deposited on the emission layer to form an electron transport layer having a thickness of 300 Å, LiF was deposited on the electron transport layer to form an electron injection layer having a thickness of 10 Å, and Al was deposited on the electron injection layer to form a second electrode (cathode) having a thickness of 1,000 Å, thereby completing the manufacture of an organic light-emitting device.
