Claims
- 1. A composition comprising a perfume and an amino-functional polymer, characterised in that at least 25% by weight of the perfume comprises perfume ingredients having a Clog P of 3 or smaller, and
- wherein said amino-functional polymer comprises a polyamine backbone corresponding to the formula: ##STR34## having a polyamine formula V(n+1)W.sub.m Y.sub.n Z or a polyamine backbone corresponding to the formula: ##STR35## having a polyamine formula V.sub.(n-k+1) W.sub.m Y.sub.n Y'.sub.k Z, wherein k is less than or equal to n, said polyamine backbone has a molecular weight greater than 200 daltons, wherein
- i) V units are terminal units having the formula: ##STR36## ii) W units are backbone units having the formula: ##STR37## iii) Y units are branching units having the formula: ##STR38## iv) Y' units are branch point for a backbone or branch ring having the formula: ##STR39## v) Z units are terminal units having the formula: ##STR40## wherein backbone linking R units are selected from the group consisting of C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 alkenylene, C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 hydroxyalkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 dihydroxy-alkylene, C.sub.8 -C.sub.12 dialkylarylene, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x R.sup.1 --, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x R.sup.5 (OR.sup.1).sub.x --, --(CH.sub.2 CH(OR.sup.2)CH.sub.2 O).sub.z (R.sup.1 O).sub.y R.sup.1 (OCH.sub.2 CH(OR.sup.2)CH.sub.2).sub.w --, --C(O)(R.sup.4).sub.r C(O)--, --CH.sub.2 CH(OR.sup.2)CH.sub.2 --, and mixtures thereof; wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene and mixtures thereof; R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x B, and mixtures thereof; R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 alkenylene, C.sub.8 -C.sub.12 arylalkylene, C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 arylene, and mixtures thereof; R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 hydroxyalkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 dihydroxy-alkylene, C.sub.8 -C.sub.12 dialkylarylene, --C(O)--, --C(O)NHR.sup.6 NHC(O)--, --R.sup.1 (OR.sup.1)--, --C(O)(R.sup.4).sub.r C(O)--, --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 O(R.sup.1 O).sub.y R.sup.1 OCH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 --, and mixtures thereof; R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene or C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 arylene; R' units are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.22 alkenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.22 arylalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.22 hydroxyalkyl, --(CH.sub.2).sub.p CO.sub.2 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.q SO.sub.3 M, --CH(CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 M)CO.sub.2 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.p PO.sub.3 M, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x B, --C(O)R.sup.3, and mixtures thereof; B is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, --(CH.sub.2).sub.q SO.sub.3 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.p CO.sub.2 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.q (CHSO.sub.3 M)CH.sub.2 SO.sub.3 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.q --(CHSO.sub.2 M)CH.sub.2 SO.sub.3 M, --(CH.sub.2).sub.p PO.sub.3 M, --PO.sub.3 M, and mixtures thereof; R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 arylalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 alkyl substituted aryl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 aryl, and mixtures thereof; M is hydrogen or a water soluble cation in sufficient amount to satisfy charge balance; X is a water soluble anion; m has the value from 2 to 700; n has the value from 0 to 350; p has the value from 1 to 6, q has the value from 0 to 6; r has the value of 0 or 1; w has the value 0 or 1; x has the value from 1 to 100; y has the value from 0 to 100; z has the value 0 or 1.
- 2. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R' units are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.3 -C.sub.22 hydroxyalkyl, benzyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x B, --C(O)R.sup.3, --(CH.sub.2).sub.p CO.sub.2 --M.sup.+, --(CH.sub.2).sub.q SO.sub.3.sup.- M.sup.+, --CH(CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 M)CO.sub.2 M and mixtures thereof.
- 3. A composition according to claim 2, wherein R' units are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl, --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x B, --C(O)R.sup.3, and mixtures thereof.
- 4. A composition according to claim 3, wherein R' units are --(R.sup.1 O).sub.x B.
- 5. A composition according to claim 4, wherein x has a value lying in the range of from about 1 to about 20.
- 6. A composition according to claim 5, wherein x has a value lying in the range of from about 1 to about 10.
- 7. A composition according to claim 1, wherein at least 50% by weight of the perfume comprises perfume ingredients having a Clog P of 3 or smaller.
- 8. A composition according to claim 7 wherein at least 75% by weight of the perfume comprises perfume ingredients having a Clog P of 3 or smaller.
- 9. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said perfume ingredients are selected from the group consisting of benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, cis-3-hexenyl acetate, coumarin, dihydromyrcenol, dimethyl benzyl carbinyl acetate, ethyl vanillin, eucalyptol, eugenol, iso eugenol, flor acetate, geraniol, hydroxycitronellal, koavone, linalool, methyl anthranilate, methyl beta naphthyl ketone, methyl dihydro jasmonate, nerol, nonalactone, phenyl ethyl acetate, phenyl ethyl alcohol, alpha terpineol, beta terpineol, vanillin, and mixtures thereof.
- 10. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises a dye fixing agent.
- 11. A composition according to claim 10, wherein said dye fixing agent is cationic.
- 12. A composition according to claim 11, wherein said dye fixing agent is polycationic.
- 13. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises a dispersible polyolefin.
- 14. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises a fabric softener.
- 15. A composition according to claim 14, wherein said composition comprises a biodegradable cationic fabric softener selected from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium compounds and amine precursors having the formula (I) or (II), below: ##STR41## wherein Q is selected from --O--C(O)--, --C(O)--O--, --O--C(O)--O--, --NR.sup.4 --C(O)--, --C(O)--NR.sup.4 --;
- R.sup.1 is (CH.sub.2).sub.n --Q--T.sup.2 or T.sup.3 ;
- R.sup.2 is (CH.sub.2).sub.m --Q--T.sup.4 or T.sup.5 or R.sup.3 ;
- R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl or H;
- R.sup.4 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl;
- T.sup.1, T.sup.2, T.sup.3, T.sup.4, T.sup.5 are independently C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl;
- n and m are integers from about 1 to about 4; and
- X.sup.- is a softener-compatible anion.
- 16. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises one or more detersive ingredients.
- 17. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition further comprises an enzyme.
- 18. A composition according to claim 17, wherein said enzyme is a cellulase.
- 19. A composition according to claim 1, wherein said composition is in a liquid form.
- 20. A composition according to claim 19, wherein said composition is applied on a substrate.
- 21. A composition according to claim 20, wherein said substrate is a dryer-sheet.
- 22. A method for providing color care and perfume substantivity on fabrics upon domestic treatment which comprises the step of contacting the fabrics with a composition according to claim 1.
- 23. A method according to claim 22, wherein said contacting step occurs in aqueous medium.
- 24. A method according to claim 23, wherein said aqueous medium is at a temperature between about 2 to about 40.degree. C.
- 25. A method according to claim 24, wherein said aqueous medium is at a temperature between about 5 to about 25.degree. C.
