Compositions Comprising Lipophilic Compounds and One or More (Bio)-Alkanediols

Abstract

The present invention relates to a cosmetic or pharmaceutical, preferably dermatological, composition comprising or consisting of a liquid lipophilic component and an effective amount of 1,2-heptanediol and/or 2,3-heptanediol or of a specific alkanediol or a mixture of two or more different specific alkanediols and the use of said compositions as a cosmetic, for personal care, as a pharmaceutical or for animal care. Additionally, the present invention relates to the use of 1,2-heptanediol and/or 2,3-heptanediol or of a specific alkanediol or of a mixture of two or more different specific alkanediols for improving the sensory properties, i.e. skin sensation, of a cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition upon topical application, or as silicone replacer.

A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition comprising: (a) a mixture comprising at least one first linear alkanediol having a carbon chain of 5 to 14 carbon atoms and one or more second linear alkanediols having a carbon chain of 5 to 14 carbon atoms which is different from the first linear alkanediol;(b) at least one liquid lipophilic component; and(c) optionally at least one cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance and/or additive; wherein the mixture comprising at least one first linear alkanediol and one or more second linear alkanediols is selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising 1,2-pentanediol and 2,3-pentanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-hexanediol and 2,3-hexanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-heptanediol and 2,3-heptanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-octanediol and 2,3-octanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-nonanediol and 2,3-nonanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-decanediol and 2,3-decanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-undecanediol and 2,3-undecanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-dodecanediol and 2,3-dodecanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-tridecanediol and 2,3-tridecanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-hexanediol and 2,3-octanediol;a mixture comprising 1,2-octanediol and 2,3-hexanediol; anda mixture comprising 1,2-octanediol and 2,3-heptanediol.

28. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, wherein the first linear alkanediol or the second linear alkanediol is an alkanediol having a maximum water solubility of less than or equal to 10% by weight.

29. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, wherein the mixture comprising at least one first linear alkanediol and one or more second linear alkanediols comprises the first linear alkanediol and the second alkanediol in a ratio in a range of 50 : 50 to 99.9 : 0.1.

A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, wherein the at least one liquid lipophilic component is selected from the group consisting of plant oils, hydrocarbons, fatty alcohols, fatty acid esters, UV filters, and mixtures of two or more of the aforesaid liquid oil components.

31. 32. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 30, wherein the at least one liquid lipophilic component is a plant oil having a melting point in the range of -20° C. to ≤ 30° C.

33. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, comprising a mixture comprising 1,2-hexanediol and 2,3-hexanediol;Glyceryl Caprylate; andoptionally at least one cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance and/or additive.

34. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, comprising a mixture comprising 1,2-heptanediol and 2,3-heptanediol;Glyceryl Caprylate; andoptionally at least one cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance and/or additive.

35. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, comprising a mixture comprising 1,2-octanediol and 2,3-octanediol;Glyceryl Caprylate; andoptionally at least one cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance and/or additive.

A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, wherein the at least one cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance and/or additive is selected from the group consisting of agents against ageing of the skin, anti-microbial agents, antioxidants, chelating agents, emulsifiers, surfactants, preservatives, green and synthetic polymers, skin-cooling agents, rheology additives, oils, fragrances or perfume oils, polyols, and mixtures of two or more of the aforementioned substances.

37. A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, comprising the mixture comprising at least one first linear alkanediol and one or more second linear alkanediols in an amount of 0.001 to 15.0% by weight.

A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, comprising the at least one liquid lipophilic component in an amount of 0.01 to 50.0 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition is an emulsion; orcomprising the at least one liquid lipophilic component in an amount of ≥ 60% by weight based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition is a water free formulation; orcomprising the at least one liquid lipophilic component in an amount of 1 to 40% by weight based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition is a solid surfactant composition.

A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition according to claim 27, wherein the composition is a dispersion comprising the at least one liquid lipophilic component in an amount of ≥ 1% by weight, and wherein the cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition is in the form of an emulsion a liquid, a lotion, a suspension, a milk, an ointment, a paste, a gel, a cream based formulation, an oil based formulation or a liposome based formulation;the composition is a water free formulation;the composition is a solid surfactant composition; orthe composition is an aqueous or aqueous/alcoholic based solution.

40. A method of improving skin sensation of a liquid lipophilic component in a cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition upon topical application comprising formulating the composition as a composition of claim 27.
