Claims
- 1. A composition for repelling insects comprising ratite oil.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 3. A composition for repelling insects comprising an active fraction of ratite oil.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 5. A composition for repelling insects comprising a mixture of fatty acids found in ratite oil.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 7. The composition of claim 5 wherein the fatty acids are myristic acid, arachidonic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linolenic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid.
- 8. The composition of claim 1, further comprising at least one additional insect repellent.
- 9. The composition of claim 3, further comprising at least one additional insect repellent.
- 10. The composition of claim 5, further comprising at least one additional insect repellent.
- 11. The composition of claim 7, further comprising at least one additional insect repellent.
- 12. The composition of claim 8, wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 13. The composition of claim 9, wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 14. The composition of claim 10, wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 15. The composition of claim 11, wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 16. A method for repelling insects comprising topically applying a composition comprising ratite oil.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 18. A method of repelling insects comprising topically applying a composition comprising an active fraction of ratite oil.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 20. A method of repelling insects comprising topically applying a composition comprising a mixture of fatty acids found in ratite oil.
- 21. The method of claim 17 wherein the ratite is selected from the group consisting of rheas, emus, ostriches, kiwis and cassowaries.
- 22. The method of claim 17 wherein the fatty acids are myristic acid, arachidonic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linolenic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid.
- 23. The method of claim 16 wherein the composition further comprises at least one additional insect repellent.
- 24. The method of claim 18 wherein the composition further comprises at least one additional insect repellent.
- 25. The method of claim 20 wherein the composition further comprises at least one additional insect repellent.
- 26. The method of claim 22 wherein the composition further comprises at least one additional insect repellent.
- 27. The method of claim 23 wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 28. The method of claim 24 wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 29. The method of claim 25 wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
- 30. The method of claim 26 wherein the additional insect repellent is selected from the group consisting of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), citronella and saponin.
