Claims
- 1. The method of inhibiting the progression of arthritis in a mammal which comprises administering to said mammal an effective amount of an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of benzoylacetonitrile, o-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, m-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile and mixtures thereof.
- 2. The method of inhibiting progressive joint deterioration in a mammal which comprises administering to said mammal an effective amount of an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of benzoylacetonitrile, o-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, m-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile and mixtures thereof.
- 3. The method of meliorating inflammation in a mammal which comprises administering to said mammal an effective amount of an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of benzoylacetonitrile, o-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, m-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile and mixtures thereof.
- 4. An anti-arthritic composition in dosage unit form useful for meliorating the inflammation and/or the progressive joint deterioration characteristic of arthritic disease in mammals comprising from about one milligram to about 250 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per daily dosage of an active ingredient selected from the group consisting of benzoylacetonitrile, o-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, m-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile, p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile and mixtures thereof.
- 5. The composition in accordance with claim 4 wherein the active ingredient is benzoylacetonitrile.
- 6. The composition in accordance with claim 4 wherein the active ingredient is o-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile.
- 7. The composition in accordance with claim 4 wherein the active ingredient is m-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile.
- 8. The composition in accordance with claim 4 wherein the active ingredient is p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile.
