Claims
- 1. An enhanced oil recovery composition consisting essentially of sea water containing 500 to 2500 ppm by weight poly(N-vinylamide) of at least 10.sup.6 average molecular weight and greater than 50% hydrolyzed to vinylamine units, the composition having a 5 to 25 cps Brookfield viscosity at 7.9 sec.sup.-1 and 90.degree. C.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 which contains 1000 to 2000 ppm by weight hydrolyzed poly(vinylamide).
- 3. The composition of claim 1 in which the poly(vinylamide) has a 3 to 15.times.10.sup.6 average molecular weight before hydrolysis.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 which has a 10 to 20 cps Brookfield viscosity.
- 5. The composition of claim 2 in which the poly(vinylamide) has a 3 to 15.times.10.sup.6 average molecular weight before hydrolysis.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 in which the poly(vinylamide) is greater than about 90% hydrolyzed.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 which has a 10 to 20 cps Brookfield viscosity.
- 8. The composition of claim 7 in which the hydrolyzed poly(vinylamide) is about 1.8 to 9.times.10.sup.6 average molecular weight.
- 9. In an enhanced oil recovery composition comprising sea water containing a polymer for viscosifying, the improvement which comprises as the viscosifying polymer a poly(vinylamide) of at least 10.sup.6 average molecular weight and greater than about 90% hydrolyzed to vinylamine units.
- 10. The composition of claim 9 in which the poly(vinylamide) is 3 to 15.times.10.sup.6 average molecular weight before hydrolysis.
- 11. The composition of claim 9 in which the hydrolyzed poly(vinylamide) is about 1.8 to 9.times.10.sup.6 average molecular weight.
- 12. The composition of claim 9 in which the poly(vinylamide) is about 99+% hydrolyzed.
- 13. The composition of claim 10 in which the poly(vinylamide) is about 99+% hydrolyzed.
