Claims
- 1. A stable homogeneous liquid composition for souring laundered textile materials and imparting softness thereto consisting essentially of
- I. About 0.5-25% by weight of a softening agent for textile materials, the softening agent being a fatty amphoteric compound corresponding to the structural formula ##STR4## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of monovalent alkyl radicals and sulfonated monovalent alkyl radicals containing about 8-22 carbon atoms, R' is selected from the group consisting of monovalent alkyl radicals and sulfonated monovalent alkyl radicals containing about 1-3 carbon atoms, and n is about 1-6, the said amphoteric compounds having non-acidic isoelectric ranges;
- II. About 3-50% by weight of orthophosphoric acid as an acidic souring agent for laundered textile materials; and
- III. About 25-96.5% by weight of water;
- the said ingredients I, II and III being present in amounts whereby a stable homogeneous liquid composition is produced.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the said softening agent is present in an amount of about 1-15% by weight.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the said souring agent is present in an amount of about 3-25% by weight.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the said softening agent is present in an amount of about 1-15% by weight, the said souring agent is present in an amount of about 3-25% by weight, and the water is present in an amount of about 60-96% by weight.
- 5. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein R is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about 12-18 carbon atoms.
- 6. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein R' is a monovalent alkyl radical containing one carbon atom.
- 7. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein n is about 1-3.
- 8. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein R is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about 8-22 carbon atoms and R' is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about one carbon atom.
- 9. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein R is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about 12-18 carbon atoms, R' is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about one carbon atom, and n is about 1-3.
- 10. The liquid composition of claim 1 wherein R is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about 18 carbon atoms, R' is a monovalent alkyl radical containing about one carbon atom, and n is about 1.
- 11. A method of preparing the stable homogeneous liquid composition of claim 1 wherein the said softening agent is admixed in water to form a homogeneous admixture thereof and thereafter the said souring agent is admixed therein to form the said stable homogeneous liquid composition.
- 12. The liquid composition of claim 11 wherein the softening agent is present in an amount of about 1-15% by weight.
- 13. The liquid composition of claim 11 wherein the souring agent is present in an amount of about 3-25% by weight.
- 14. The liquid composition of claim 11 wherein the softening agent is present in an amount of about 1-15% by weight, the souring agent is present in an amount of about 3-25% by weight, and the water is present in an amount of about 60-95% by weight.
- 15. A stable homogeneous aqueous stock solution for souring laundered textile materials prepared by diluting the liquid composition of claim 1 with water.
- 16. A stable homogeneous aqueous stock solution for souring laundered textile materials prepared by diluting the liquid composition of claim 4 with water.
- 17. A stable homogeneous aqueous stock solution for souring laundered textile materials prepared by diluting the liquid composition of claim 8 with water.
- 18. A stable homogeneous aqueous stock solution for souring laundered textile materials prepared by diluting the liquid composition of claim 10 with water.
