Claims
- 1. A composition effective for disinfecting a contact lens comprising:
a liquid aqueous medium; a disinfectant component present in said composition in an amount effective to disinfect a contact lens contacted with said composition; and a vitamin derivative component present in an amount effective as a surfactant in said composition.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component is soluble in said liquid aqueous medium.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes one or more derivatives of a vitamin selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin A2, Vitamin C, Vitamin D1, Vitamin D2, Vitamin D3, Vitamin D4, Vitamin E, Vitamin K1, Vitamin K2, folic acid and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes at least one non-anionic derivative of Vitamin E.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes one or more amide derivatives.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 in the form of a multi-purpose contact lens care solution.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 wherein said disinfectant component is a non-oxidative disinfectant.
- 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the disinfectant component includes one or more biguanides.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 wherein the disinfectant component includes polyhexamethylene biguanide.
- 10. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component is present in an amount effective to at least assist in removing deposit material from a contact lens contacted with said composition.
- 11. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes Vitamin E TPGS.
- 12. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes Vitamin E TPGSA.
- 13. A composition effective for in-the-eye use comprising:
a liquid aqueous medium; and a vitamin derivative component present in an amount effective as a surfactant in said composition, said composition being ophthalmically acceptable and adapted for use as a contact lens re-wetter or in-the-eye contact lens cleaner or an artificial tear composition or an eye wash component or an irrigating composition.
- 14. The composition of claim 13 in the form of a contact lens re-wetter.
- 15. The composition of claim 13 in the form of an in-the-eye contact lens cleaner.
- 16. The composition of claim 13 in the form of an artificial tear composition.
- 17. The composition of claim 13 in the form of an eye wash composition.
- 18. The composition of claim 13 in the form of an irrigating composition.
- 19. The composition of claim 13 which is substantially free of steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, sulfa drugs and poorly soluble ophthalmic agents.
- 20. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component is soluble in said liquid aqueous medium.
- 21. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes one or more derivatives of a vitamin selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin A2, Vitamin C, Vitamin D1, Vitamin D2, Vitamin D3, Vitamin D4, Vitamin E, Vitamin K1, Vitamin K2, folic acid and mixtures thereof.
- 22. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes at least one non-anionic derivative of Vitamin E.
- 23. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes one or more amide derivatives.
- 24. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes Vitamin E TPGS.
- 25. The composition of claim 13 wherein the vitamin derivative component includes Vitamin E TPGSA.
- 26. The composition of claim 13 which includes an effective amount of a preservative component.
- 27. The composition of claim 26 said preservative component includes stabilized chlorine dioxide.
- 28. The method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 1 at conditions effective to disinfect said contact lens.
- 29. A method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with a composition of claim 5 at conditions effective to disinfect said contact lens.
- 30. A method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with a composition of claim 6 at conditions effective to disinfect said contact lens.
- 31. The method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 11 at conditions effective to disinfect said contact lens.
- 32. The method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 12 at conditions effective to disinfect said contact lens.
- 33. A method for treating a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 6 at conditions effective to provide the desired treatment to said contact lens.
- 34. A method for cleaning a contact lens comprising contacting a proteinaceous deposit material-containing contact lens with the composition of claim 10 at conditions effective to remove proteinaceous deposit material from said proteinaceous deposit material-containing contact lens.
- 35. A method of re-wetting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 16 at conditions effective to re-wet said contact lens.
- 36. A method of cleaning a contact lens in-the-eye comprising contacting a contact lens with the composition of claim 13 at conditions effective to clean said contact lens.
- 37. A method for treating an eye comprising administering to the eye an effective amount of the composition of claim 16.
- 38. A method of washing an eye comprising administering to the eye an effective amount of the composition of claim 17.
- 39. A method of irrigating an eye comprising administering to the eye an effective amount of the composition of claim 18.
