Claims
- 1. A method for prophylaxis hepatitis C virus infection in a host susceptible to said infection, said method comprising administering to said host a prophylactically effective amount of a compound having the formula: ##STR9## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and represent substituents selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, carboxy, carbalkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl, alkylsulfonyl, amino, acetamido, sulfonamido, alkylamino, dialkylamino and NO.sub.2 ; W and X represent the same or different linking moieties selected from the group consisting of alkylene (C.sub.1 -C.sub.5) and carbonyl (--(C.dbd.O)--); Y and Z represent the same or different substituents selected from the group consisting of ##STR10## carboxy, carbalkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl, alkylsulfonyl, amino, acetamido, sulfonamido, alkylamino, dialkylamino and NO.sub.2, and m is 1-4, and wherein R.sub.7 represents a substituent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl and acyl, and n is from 3 to 5; and the isomers and pharmaceutically acceptable salts of said compounds.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said compound is administered in unit dosage form containing about 5 to about 50 mg of said compound per kilogram of patient body weight per day.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said unit dosage includes a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier medium.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said composition is administered parenterally.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said composition is administered orally.
