Claims
- 1. A compound of the structure:
- where X, Y and Z, which may be the same or different, are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a hydroxy-protecting group, and
- where n is 3 or 4, and
- where m and p are integers having, independently, values of 1 to 5.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 where X, Y, and Z are hydroxy-protecting groups.
- 3. A compound of claim 2 where X, Y, and Z are alkylsilyl groups.
- 4. A compound of claim 1 where X, Y, and Z are hydrogen.
- 5. 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 6. 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 7. 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 8. 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 9. 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 10. 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 11. A pharmaceutical composition containing an effective amount of a compound as claimed in claim 1 together with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
- 12. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 13. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 14. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 15. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 16. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 17. A pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 11 where the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 18. A method for inducing and enhancing cell differentiation in malignant cells which comprises exposing said cells to at least one of the compounds claimed in claim 1, in an amount sufficient to induce cell differentiation.
- 19. The method as claimed in claim 18 where the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 20. The method as claimed in claim 18 where the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 21. The method as claimed in claim 18, where the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 22. The method as claimed in claim 18 where the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 23. The method as claimed in claim 18 where the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 24. The method as claimed in claim 18 where the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 25. A method for treating neoplastic diseases which comprises administering to a subject having a neoplastic disease an effective amount of at least one of the compounds of claim 1.
- 26. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 27. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 28. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 29. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 30. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 31. The method of claim 25 where the compound administered is 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
