Claims
- 1. A computer controlled display device, comprising:
a flat panel display having an input for receiving display data; a moveable assembly coupled to said display, said moveable assembly providing at least three degrees of freedom of movement for said flat panel display device and having a cross-sectional area which is substantially less than a cross-sectional area of a display structure of said flat panel display, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a plurality of wires, said plurality of wires being deformable to change a shape of said moveable assembly.
- 2. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said plurality of wires are intertwined.
- 3. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled.
- 4. The computer controlled display device of claim 3, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled by at least one clamp.
- 5. The computer controlled display device of claim 4, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled in a substantially circular arrangement.
- 6. The computer controlled display device of claim 3, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled by an elastomeric material.
- 7. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a shroud about said plurality wires.
- 8. The computer controlled display device of claim 7, wherein said shroud is comprised of an elastomeric material.
- 9. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of a material which exhibits plasticity.
- 10. The computer controlled display device of claim 9, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of lead.
- 11. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations thereof.
- 12. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first diameter at a first end and a second diameter at a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein said first diameter is greater than said second diameter.
- 13. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first end and a second a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, said first end having a greater number of wires than said second end.
- 14. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein a wire of said plurality of wires comprises a first diameter at a first end and a second diameter at a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein said first diameter is greater than said second diameter.
- 15. The computer controlled display device of claim 1, wherein disposed within said moveable assembly is one of a data cable and a power cable.
- 16. A computer controlled display system, comprising:
a flat panel display having a display surface and an input for receiving display data to be displayed on said display surface; a moveable assembly coupled mechanically to said flat panel display, said moveable assembly having a cross-sectional area which is substantially less than an area of said display surface, said moveable assembly being moveable to allow said flat panel display to be selectively positioned in space relative to a user of said computer controlled display system, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a plurality of wires, said plurality of wires being deformable to change a shape of said moveable assembly; and a base coupled mechanically to said moveable assembly and to said flat panel display through said moveable assembly, said base housing computer components comprising a microprocessor, a memory, a bus, an I/O (input/output) controller, and an I/O port, wherein said microprocessor is coupled to said input of said flat panel display.
- 17. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said plurality of wires are intertwined.
- 18. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled.
- 19. The computer controlled display system of claim 18, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled by at least one clamp.
- 20. The computer controlled display system of claim 19, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled in a substantially circular arrangement.
- 21. The computer controlled display system of claim 18, wherein said plurality of wires are bundled by an elastomeric material.
- 22. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a shroud about said plurality wires.
- 23. The computer controlled display system of claim 22, wherein said shroud is comprised of an elastomeric material.
- 24. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of a material which exhibits plasticity.
- 25. The computer controlled display system of claim 24, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of lead.
- 26. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said plurality of wires are comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations thereof.
- 27. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first diameter at a first end and a second diameter at a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein said first diameter is greater than said second diameter.
- 28. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first end and a second a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, said first end having a greater number of wires than said second end.
- 29. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein a wire of said plurality of wires comprises a first diameter at a first end and a second diameter at a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein said first diameter is greater than said second diameter.
- 30. The computer controlled display system of claim 16, wherein disposed within said moveable assembly is one of a data cable and a power cable.
- 31. A computer controlled display device, comprising:
a flat panel display having an input for receiving display data; a moveable assembly coupled to said display, said moveable assembly providing at least three degrees of freedom of movement for said flat panel display device and having a cross-sectional area which is substantially less than a cross-sectional area of a display structure of said flat panel display, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a dual-spring structure, said dual-spring structure comprising a first spring and a second spring, said first spring being intertwined with said second spring.
- 32. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a shroud about said dual-spring structure.
- 33. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said dual-spring structure is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations thereof.
- 34. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first dual-spring structure and a second dual-spring structure, said second dual-spring structure disposed within said first dual-spring structure.
- 35. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said first spring comprises a first wire, said first wire having a substantially circular cross-section, and wherein said second spring comprises a second wire, said second wire having a substantially trapezoidal cross-section.
- 36. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said dual-spring structure comprises a first end and a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein a first coil diameter of said first end is greater than a second coil diameter of said second end.
- 37. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein said first spring comprises a wire having a first end and a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein a first diameter of said wire at said first end is greater than a second diameter of said wire at said second end.
- 38. The computer controlled display device of claim 31, wherein disposed within said moveable assembly is one of a data cable and a power cable.
- 39. A computer controlled display system, comprising:
a flat panel display having a display surface and an input for receiving display data to be displayed on said display surface; a moveable assembly coupled mechanically to said flat panel display, said moveable assembly having a cross-sectional area which is substantially less than an area of said display surface, said moveable assembly being moveable to allow said flat panel display to be selectively positioned in space relative to a user of said computer controlled display system, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a dual-spring structure, said dual-spring structure comprising a first spring and a second spring, said first spring being intertwined with said second spring; and a base coupled mechanically to said moveable assembly and to said flat panel display through said moveable assembly, said base housing computer components comprising a microprocessor, a memory, a bus, an I/O (input/output) controller, and an I/O port, wherein said microprocessor is coupled to said input of said flat panel display.
- 40. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a shroud about said dual-spring structure.
- 41. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said dual-spring structure is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations thereof.
- 42. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said moveable assembly comprises a first dual-spring structure and a second dual-spring structure, said second dual-spring structure being nested within said first dual-spring structure.
- 43. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said first spring comprises a first wire, said first wire having a substantially circular cross-section, and wherein said second spring comprises a second wire, said second wire having a substantially trapezoidal cross-section.
- 44. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said dual-spring structure comprises a first end and a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein a first coil diameter of said first end is greater than a second coil diameter of said second end.
- 45. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein said first spring comprises a wire having a first end and a second end, said second end being proximate to said flat panel display, wherein a first diameter of said wire at said first end is greater than a second diameter of said wire at said second end.
- 46. The computer controlled display system of claim 39, wherein disposed within said moveable assembly is one of a data cable and a power cable.
