Claims
- 1. A method for evaluating the diagnostic state of a component comprising:
obtaining a computer server database and a computer client, wherein said computer server database includes component information; communicating said computer client with said computer server database so as to allow access to said component information; retrieving said component information from said computer server database so as to obtain retrieved component information; and formulating said diagnostic state of a component responsive to said retrieved component information.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein said obtaining further includes obtaining said computer server, wherein said computer server is communicated with said computer server database and said computer client.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein said computer server is a secured internet server and wherein said computer client is communicated with said computer server via a network.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said obtaining further includes obtaining a portable computer, wherein said portable computer is communicated with said computer client.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said portable computer is communicated with said computer client via wireless communications.
- 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein said component information is responsive to operational characteristics of said component.
- 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein said component information is responsive to physical characteristics of said component.
- 8. The method according to claim 1, wherein said computer server database is a relational database, wherein said component information is stored within said computer server database in a relational manner.
- 9. The method according to claim 1, wherein said communicating includes accessing said computer server database via said computer client, wherein said computer client is accessed via a portable computer.
- 10. The method according to claim 2, wherein said retrieving includes communicating an information request to said computer server, wherein said information request includes component identification.
- 11. The method according to claim 10, wherein said component identification includes a vehicle identification number.
- 12. The method according to claim 10, wherein said retrieving includes communicating said retrieved component information to a portable computer, wherein said retrieved component information is responsive to said information request.
- 13. The method according to claim 1, wherein said retrieving includes storing said retrieved component information into a portable computer.
- 14. The method according to claim 1, wherein said formulating includes examining said component so as to determine a component characteristic.
- 15. The method according to claim 14, wherein said examining said component includes measuring operational characteristics of said component.
- 16. The method according to claim 14, wherein said formulating includes comparing said component characteristic with said retrieved component information so as to diagnose a component problem.
- 17. The method according to claim 1, wherein said formulating includes determining service requirements for said component.
- 18. A method for acquiring component information for use in evaluating the diagnostic state of a component comprising:
identifying a component to be examined; obtaining said component; determining a component characteristic to be examined; examining said component so as to obtain component information responsive to said component characteristic; and storing said component information.
- 19. The method according to claim 18, wherein said identifying includes identifying said component responsive to predetermined conditions.
- 20. The method according to claim 18, wherein said identifying includes establishing a time period for examination of said component to occur.
- 21. The method according to claim 18, wherein said identifying includes assigning supervising personnel to supervise examination of said component.
- 22. The method according to claim 21, wherein said supervising personnel is a research and development team leader.
- 23. The method according to claim 18, wherein said identifying includes assigning performance personnel to conduct examination of said component.
- 24. The method according to claim 23, wherein said performance personnel is a data input specialist.
- 25. The method according to claim 23, wherein said obtaining includes said performance personnel locating and obtaining said component.
- 26. The method according to claim 18, wherein said determining includes inspecting said component so as to identify each of said component characteristic.
- 27. The method according to claim 26, wherein said component characteristic includes a component electrical connection.
- 28. The method according to claim 18, wherein said examining includes modifying said component so as to obtain said component information.
- 29. The method according to claim 18, wherein said examining includes examining said component under multiple component conditions.
- 30. The method according to claim 18, wherein said storing includes storing said component information into a computer server database.
