Abstract
A concealed pocket system is described herein. The concealed pocket system has a concealed pouch assembly disposed on a clothing garment. A concealed pocket of the concealed pouch assembly is disposed within a hand pouch and has at least one access point to a storage area of the concealed pocket. The concealed pocket system enables users to securely store items in the clothing garment, while effectively hiding points of access to the storage area (i.e. the interior pocket compartment) of the concealed pocket, thereby providing an additional layer of security.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to clothing garments having a concealed pocket.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Clothing, such as shirts, sweatshirts, hooded pullover sweatshirts (hoodies), sweaters, jackets, and vests, often do not have adequate means for users to store items such as keys, wallets, phones, or music devices. While these clothing may have pockets, the pockets usually have permanent openings. As a result, items tend to fall out of these articles of clothing and become lost. In addition, while some pockets may be equipped with a sealable opening, they are still clearly visible on the garment, which can, unfortunately, provide pickpockets with easy access to the pockets from which they can steal the items within.

There have been solutions to mitigate the problems described above. For example, US20080196140A1 of Mayerson teaches a front pocket located behind a front pouch and having an opening just above the front pouch (FIG. 7). As another example, US20090282600A1 of Robinson teaches a pocket assembly having a means for closing a topside (FIG. 8). Further still, US20050235398A1 of Yoo discloses a pocket system having an inlet to access the passageway of the pocket system (FIG. 9). However, while these prior arts teach concealed pockets, they are still prone to pickpocketing due to their exposed closure.

Any feature or combination of features described herein is included within the scope of the present invention provided that the features included in any such combination are not mutually inconsistent as will be apparent from the context, this specification, and the knowledge of one of ordinary skill in the art. Additional advantages and aspects of the present invention are apparent in the following detailed description and claims.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention features a concealed pocket system. Examples of said garments include but are not limited to shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters, jackets, and vests. The present invention provides a secure means for users to store items. Without wishing to limit the invention to any theory or mechanism, the present invention's structure not only allows multiple access points to the storage space for convenience, but it also hides these access points from the public eye, effectively adding another layer of security from theft. None of the presently known prior references or work has the unique inventive technical feature of the present invention.

The present invention provides for a concealed pocket system that is hidden within a hand pouch and concealed from view, creating a more secure pocket within the garment to place valuables.

Additionally, the concealed pocket system eliminates the chances that items placed in the concealed pocket accidentally fall out of the pocket and reduces the chance of the wearer being pickpocketed unknowingly. The configuration of the concealed pocket effectively provides enough space for users to access the concealed pocket while also hiding access points to the concealed pocket through the horizontal or vertical zipper disposed on the concealed pocket.

One of the unique and inventive technical features of the present invention is the strengthened three-layer bottom edge. Without wishing to limit the invention to any theory or mechanism, it is believed that the technical feature of the present invention advantageously provides for a three-layer system (see FIG. 4) that allows for an increased thickness at the concealed pocket bottom edge. The multiple layers at the bottom edge of the concealed pocket allow for extra durability and strength. This is critical for the present invention as the concealed pocket is meant to inconspicuously carry valuable items. Thus, having a more durable bottom edge of the concealed pocket vastly eliminates the potential that the bottom edge of the pocket breaks and exposing the valuable items inside. Therefore, the concealed pocket bottom edge being reinforced by the hand pouch bottom edge and the garment is significant to the present invention. None of the presently known prior references or work has the unique inventive technical feature of the present invention.

Further still, the systems of Mayerson and Robinson, if combined, would not arrive at the present invention. The front pouch of Mayerson, when overlaid on the pocket subassembly of Robinson, would obviate access to the pocket flap opening of Robinson.

In a non-limiting embodiment, the concealed pocket system comprises a torso-covering garment surface having a concealed pocket assembly disposed thereon. The concealed pocket assembly may comprise a concealed pocket, a hand pouch, and a horizontal zipper configured to provide access to the concealed pocket. In some embodiments, the concealed pocket has a concealed pocket top edge and a concealed pocket bottom edge. In some embodiments, the hand pouch has a hand pouch top edge and a hand pouch bottom edge. Preferably, the hand pouch top edge, the concealed pocket top edge, and the first side of the zipper may be permanently attached together by stitching in said order. A second side of the zipper may also be permanently attached to the garment surface by stitching. This arrangement sandwiches the horizontal zipper between the concealed pocket and the garment surface, thus effectively hiding the horizontal zipper from view. In other embodiments, the concealed pocket top edge is aligned with the hand pouch top edge. In still other embodiments, the hand pouch bottom edge is aligned with the concealed pocket bottom edge but overlaps the ends of the concealed pocket bottom edge. Preferably, the concealed pocket is disposed between the hand pouch and garment surface so as to be hidden from view. Said configurations effectively provide enough space for users to access the concealed pocket while also hiding access points to the concealed pocket through the horizontal zipper and a vertical zipper disposed on the concealed pocket.

In accordance with the present invention, the concealed pocket system has been described for exemplary purposes. In connection with pullover sweatshirts. However, the concealed pocket system may be used with any torso-covering garment.
