Claims
- 1. A ramp assembly comprising:a first layer having at least one first block, each first block having: a top surface spaced apart form a substantially parallel bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; the top surface having a projection extending therefrom; and a second layer having at least one second block, each second block having: a top surface spaced apart from and inclined relative to a bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; wherein the bottom surface of the second block has at least one groove adapted to engage the projection of the top surface of the first block, thus forming an interlocking arrangement.
- 2. The ramp assembly of claim 1 wherein the top surface of the second block has a projection extending therefrom.
- 3. The ramp assembly of claim 1 wherein the first block has a core extending through the block body substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis.
- 4. The ramp assembly of claim 1 further comprising adhesive disposed between the projection of the block in the first layer and the groove in the block in the second layer.
- 5. A ramp assembly comprising:first and second supports spaced apart in substantially parallel arrangement, each support comprising: a first layer having at least one first block, each first block having: a top surface spaced apart from a substantially parallel bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; a second layer having at least one second block, each second block having: a top surface spaced apart from and inclined relative to a bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; and a tread having a substantially planar top surface and an opposed and substantially parallel bottom surface, opposed front and rear surfaces, and first and second ends; wherein the tread rests on the first and second supports.
- 6. The ramp assembly of claim 5 wherein the top surface of the first block in the first layer further has a projection extending therefrom and the bottom surface of the second block in the second layer has a groove that engages the projection of the first block to form an interlocking arrangement.
- 7. The ramp assembly of claim 5 further wherein the top surface of the second block in the second layer has a projection extending therefrom and the bottom surface of the tread has first and second grooves that engage the projections on the top surfaces of the second blocks in the first and second supports to form an interlocking arrangement.
- 8. The ramp assembly of claim 5 wherein the first block has a core extending through the block body substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis.
- 9. The ramp assembly of claim 6 further comprising adhesive disposed between the projection of the first block and the groove in the second block.
- 10. The ramp assembly of claim 7 further comprising adhesive disposed between the projections of the second blocks in the second layer and the first and second grooves in the tread.
- 11. A ramp assembly comprising:first and second supports spaced apart in substantially parallel arrangement, each support comprising: a first layer having at least one first block, each first block having: a top surface spaced apart from a substantially parallel bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; the top surface having a projection extending therefrom; a second layer having at least one second block, each second block having: a top surface spaced apart from and inclined relative to a bottom surface, thereby defining a block thickness; opposed and substantially parallel first and second walls having a length defining a longitudinal axis; opposed and substantially parallel first and second ends separated by the length; the top surface, the bottom surface, the first and second walls and the first and second ends together forming a block body; the bottom surface having a groove therein and the top surface having a projection extending therefrom; and a tread having a substantially planar top surface and an opposed and substantially parallel bottom surface, opposed front and rear surfaces, and first and second ends; the bottom surface having first and second grooves, wherein the groove on the bottom surface of the second block engages the projection on the top surface of the first block such that the projection and the groove form an interlocking arrangement and wherein the first groove of the tread engages the projection on the second block in the second layer of the first support and the second groove of the tread engages the projection on the second block in the second layer of the second support to form an interlocking arrangement.
- 12. The ramp assembly of claim 11 wherein the first block has a core extending through the block body substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis.
