Claims
- 1. An air conditioning module for a bus rooftop having at least one return air opening for conducting the flow of return air from the passenger compartment and at least one supply air opening for conducting the flow of conditioned air to the passenger compartment, comprising:a pair of condenser sections in adjacent, parallel relationship, each having at least one condenser coil and a condenser fan for causing ambient air to flow therethrough; a pair of evaporator sections in adjacent, parallel relationship, each having at least one evaporator coil and at least one evaporator fan for causing air to flow from said at least one return air opening, through an evaporator coil, into at least one supply air opening; a pair of compressors disposed, one in each of said pair of condenser sections; and an inverter/controller disposed in only one of said condenser sections but electrically connected to each of said of pair of condenser sections for providing electrical power to said compressor and to other electrical components therein.
- 2. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 1 wherein said module is adapted for installation on a bus rooftop with each of said condenser and evaporator sections extending transversely across a longitudinal centerline of said bus.
- 3. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 2 wherein said compressors are disposed in a compartment near the lateral outer side of said module.
- 4. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 2 wherein said compressors are mounted with their axes extending substantially transversely of the bus.
- 5. An air conditioner as set forth in claim 1 wherein said inverter/controller is disposed in a compartment near a lateral outer side of said module.
- 6. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 1 wherein said pair of evaporator sections have at least one heat exchanger coil that extends across both sections.
- 7. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 6 wherein said heat exchanger coil includes a tube sheet disposed between the two sections.
- 8. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 1 wherein said pair of condenser sections have at least one heat exchanger coil that extends across both sections.
- 9. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 8 wherein said heat exchanger coil includes a tube sheet disposed between the two sections.
- 10. An air conditioning module as set forth in claim 1 wherein said pair of evaporator sections both communicate with a single return air opening.
- 11. A bus air conditioning system having at least one module for installation on a bus rooftop having at least one return air opening for conducting the flow of return air from a passenger compartment and at least one supply air opening for conducting the flow of conditioned air to the passenger compartment, with each module comprising:a refrigeration circuit for circulating refrigerant serially through a compressor, a condenser coil, an expansion valve and an evaporator coil; at least one condenser section having at least one condenser coil and a condenser fan for causing ambient air to flow therethrough; at least one evaporator section having at least one evaporator coil and one evaporator fan for causing return air to flow from said return air opening through an evaporator coil and to said supply air opening; and an inverter/controller disposed in said at least one condenser section and electrically connected to said compressor and to other electrical components in said module wherein each of said condenser and evaporator sections extends transversely across the longitudinal centerline of the bus.
- 12. A bus air conditioning system as set forth in claim 11 wherein said at least one evaporator section comprises two evaporator sections with each being fluidly interconnected to a common return air opening and a common supply air opening.
- 13. A bus air conditioning system as set forth in claim 11 wherein said at least one condenser section comprises two condenser sections adjacent one another.
- 14. A bus air conditioning system as set forth in claim 11 wherein said at least one module comprises two modules, with one module having two evaporator sections in adjacent relationship and one module having a single evaporator section that is placed adjacent said two evaporator sections of said first module.
- 15. A bus air conditioning system as set forth in claim 11 wherein said at least one module comprises a pair of modules with each having a pair of evaporator sections disposed adjacent each other, and each of said modules being disposed such that said evaporator sections are adjacent the evaporator sections of said other module.
