Claims
- 1. A cube corner retroreflective sheeting comprising a plurality of cube corner segments, each segment comprising a plastic body portion having a substantially planar front major surface and at least one minute cube corner retroreflective element projecting rearwardly from said body portion and defining a cube corner point side of said cube comer segment, wherein:a) the segments are not rigidly connected together; b) the periphery of each segment is defined by a plurality of separations, adjacent segments being separated by less than about 1 millimeter and bonded together through a conformable carrier layer, or being separated by a gap which is substantially filled with a conformable resin; and c) the areas of the sheeting that are not capable of retroreflecting light are comfortable to a nonplanar substrate; and d) wherein the sheeting is omnidirectionally extensible at some elevated temperature to be conformable to a nonplanar substrate having an intricate shape or very small dimensions, and maintains a high retroreflective brightness when the sheeting is conformed to the nonplanar substrate.
- 2. A retroreflective sheeting according to claim 1, wherein the optical properties of the retroreflective elements are not adversely affected when the sheeting is conformed to the nonplanar substrate.
- 3. A retroreflective sheeting according to claim 1, wherein the segments are not distorted in shape when the sheeting is conformed to the nonplanar substrate.
- 4. A retroreflective sheeting according to claim 1, wherein each segment has one cube corner retroreflective element.
- 5. A retroreflective sheeting according to claim 1, wherein each segment has a plurality of cube corner retroreflective elements.
- 6. A cube corner retroreflective sheeting comprising a carrier layer that is omnidirectionally extensible at ambient temperature to be conformable to a nonplanar substrate, and which conformably bonds together a plurality of cube comer segments, each segment comprising a plastic body portion having a substantially planar front major surface and one minute cube comer retroreflective element projecting rearwardly from said body portion and defining a cube comer point side of said cube comer segment, wherein the carrier layer has a tensile modulus of less than about 6.9×108 N/m2 at room temperature.
