Claims
- 1. A conformable, heat resistant two-sided acrylic-based tape comprising:
a solid acrylic-based carrier; an acrylic-based adhesive on both sides of said carrier; and a conformable heat resistant liner adhered to at least one side of said adhesives on said carrier; wherein said adhesive and liner withstand temperatures up to 300° F.
- 2. The tape of claim 1 having a thickness of about 0.5 to 2.0 mm.
- 3. The tape of claim 1 wherein said heat-resistant liner is comprised of a polyvinyl-chloride based material.
- 4. The tape of claim 1 wherein said tape is paintable.
- 5. The tape of claim 1 having a peel strength of at least 20 N/cm after being processed through one paint bake cycle.
- 6. In combination, a conformable, heat resistant two-sided acrylic-based tape and a substrate comprising:
a solid acrylic-based carrier; an acrylic-based adhesive on both sides of said carrier; and a conformable heat-resistant liner adhered to one side of said adhesive coated carrier; wherein the adhesive on the other side of said carrier is adhered to said substrate; and wherein the adhesive and liner on said substrate withstand temperatures up to 300° F.
- 7. A method of applying an acrylic tape to a substrate comprising:
1) providing a substrate; 2) adhering one side of a two-sided acrylic tape to at least one area of said substrate, said tape including a conformable heat-resistant liner on the other side thereof, 3) exposing said substrate with said tape thereon to temperatures up to 300° F., wherein the bonding properties of said tape are not reduced.
- 8. The method of claim 7 including painting said substrate with said tape thereon.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein said liner comprises a polyvinyl chloride-based material.
- 10. The method of claim 7 wherein said substrate is selected from the group consisting of wood, metal, glass, thermoplastic olefins, acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene, and a polyvinyl chloride-based material.
- 11. The method of claim 7 wherein said substrate is an automotive or appliance part.
- 12. The method of claim 7 wherein exposing said substrate to temperatures up to 300° F. includes passing said substrate through a paint bake cycle.
- 13. The method of claim 12 including removing said liner to expose the adhesive on the other side of said tape and adhering said painted part to a second substrate.
- 14. A conformable, heat resistant two-sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape comprising:
a solid carrier; a pressure sensitive adhesive on both sides of said carrier; and a conformable, heat resistant liner adhered to at least one side of said adhesives on said carrier; wherein said tape is paintable and can withstand temperatures up to 300° F.
