- 9. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the connector valve and the coupler may be telescopically engageable.
- 10. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the coupler includes first and second retaining recesses disposed on an outer surface of the coupler between the end and the outlet.
- 11. The connector apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the first and second retaining recesses are tapered recesses.
- 12. The connector apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the first and second retaining recesses cooperate with a locking member of the connecting mechanism of the adapter when the connector valve is engaged with the coupler, the first and second retaining recesses each form a one way lock relationship with the locking member, wherein the connector valve and the coupler are permanently engaged.
- 13. The connector apparatus according to claim 12, wherein the first retaining recess cooperates with the locking member in the closed configuration, and the second retaining recess cooperates with the locking member in the open configuration.
- 14. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the valve member including a sealing end; the sealing end being moveable relative to an inner sidewall of the coupler and maintains a fluid tight seal when in contact with the sidewall in the closed configuration, the sealing end enabling fluid flow through the flow passage when moved past an opening of the outlet of the coupler.
- 15. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, comprising a stop member removeably attached to the coupler, the stop member preventing movement of the connector valve into the open configuration.
- 16. The connector apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the stop member includes a handle.
- 17. The connector apparatus according to claim 16, wherein the handle is a tear away handle such that the stop member is removed from the coupler when torn enabling movement of the connector valve.
- 18. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the coupler includes a second outlet, the second outlet enabling steam release from the first outlet in the open configuration.
- 19. The connector apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the coupler and the connector valve being constructed of an injection molded high temperature thermoplastic material consisting of polycarbonate, polysulphone, or polyphenylsulfide
- 20. A sterilized assembly for bioprocessing comprising:
a media source; a connector apparatus connected to the media source, the connector apparatus including a coupler and a connector valve connectable to the media source at a first end, the connector valve including an adapter having a connecting mechanism and a valve member, the connector valve engaged with the coupler through the connecting mechanism, the connector apparatus being actuatable from a closed configuration to an open configuration, wherein the open configuration defining a flow passage through the connector valve and coupler; the media source and a portion of the connector apparatus defining the connector valve, valve member, and a portion of the coupler being subjected to a first sterilization; and a piece of bioprocessing equipment connected with the connector apparatus so as to couple the media source with the piece of bioprocessing equipment, the piece of bioprocessing equipment and a remaining portion of the coupler being subjected to a second sterilization.
- 21. A method for connecting an assembly for bioprocessing comprising:
providing a filled media source connected to a connector apparatus, and a piece of bioprocessing equipment, the connector apparatus including a connector valve, a coupler, a valve member, and a stop member; subjecting the filled media source and at least a first portion of the connector apparatus to a first sterilization; coupling the filled media source to the piece of bioprocessing equipment using the connector apparatus; subjecting the piece of processing equipment and a second portion partially overlapping the first portion of the connector apparatus to a second sterilization, thereby sterilizing the connector apparatus in a connected state; actuating the connector apparatus to enable media flow through the connector apparatus to the piece of bioprocessing equipment.
- 22. The method for connecting an assembly for bioprocessing according to claim 21, wherein the step subjecting the filled media source and a portion of the connector apparatus to a first sterilization includes maintaining the first sterilization before and during connection with the bioprocessing equipment.
- 23. The method for connecting an assembly for bioprocessing according to claim 21, wherein actuating the connector apparatus includes pushing the valve member through the coupler from a closed configuration to an open configuration.
