Claims
- 1. A method for assembling a connector having a first terminal; a second terminal; joint terminal means, said joint terminal means being formed of a substantially flat metal plate having an elongated base portion and a plurality of electrical connection portions, each of said electrical connection portions extending from one side of said elongated base portion and being in alignment with each other; and housing means having a rear wall and side walls extending around the perimeter of said rear wall, and an opening at a front wall, said opening being opposed to said rear wall, said housing means having a plurality of interior terminal housings between adjacent interior spacing walls, said interior spacing walls extending from said rear wall to said front wall, each of said interior terminal housings accommodating at least one of said first and second terminals therein, each of said interior terminal housings being in alignment with each other side by side, said housing means being provided with an elongated groove extending between an opposed pair of said side walls through said interior spacing walls and opening at said front wall for receiving said joint terminal means therein, so that when said joint terminal means is placed in said elongated groove, said first and second terminals accommodated in said interior terminal housings are electrically connected by corresponding electrical connection portions, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) inserting said joint terminal means in said elongated groove so as to extend across said interior terminal housings;
- (b) placing each of electrical connection portions inside a corresponding interior terminal housing, said electrical connection portions dividing each of said interior terminal housings into substantially equal corresponding spaces;
- c) inserting said first and second terminals into respective corresponding spaces defined by each interior terminal housing and corresponding electrical connection portion; and
- d) electrically connecting said first terminal and said second terminal through said corresponding electrical connection portion for electrical connection between said first and second terminals through said joint terminal means.
- 2. The method for assembling according to claim 1, wherein the connector has at least one additional terminal in addition to said first and second terminals, said method further comprising:
- connecting said at least one additional terminal through said corresponding electrical connection portion for electrical connection with said first and second terminals through said joint terminal means.
- 3. The method for assembling according to claim 1, wherein at least one of said plurality of electrical connection portions extending from said elongated base portion includes a projection at a free end thereof, and wherein said rear wall of said housing means has an end receiving groove formed therein corresponding to each said projection, wherein said method further comprises:
- engaging said at least one projection in said corresponding at least one end receiving groove to support said metal plate with said rear wall of said housing means.
- 4. The method for assembling according to claim 1, wherein each of said interior terminal housings further comprises a guide channel extending adjacent and substantially parallel to one of said side walls and said interior spacing walls, and wherein each of said terminals includes a guide tab extending downward therefrom, wherein said inserting said terminals into spaces defined by said corresponding interior terminal housings and said electrical connection portions further comprises:
- inserting said terminals through said corresponding interior terminal housings with said guide tab aligned with said corresponding guide channel to guide said terminal into proper position.
- 5. The method for assembling according to claim 4, wherein each of said interior terminal housing further comprises a lance integrally formed with a wall thereof, said lance extending into the space formed by said interior terminal housing and ending in a tapered tip, and wherein each of said terminals includes a lance engaging hole, wherein said inserting said terminals through said corresponding terminal housing means with said guide tab aligned with said corresponding guide channel to guide said terminal into proper position, further comprises:
- inserting each of said terminals along each said corresponding guide channel until said lance engaging hole engages with said tapered tip of said lance.
- 6. A method for assembling a connector having a plurality of terminals; joint terminal means being formed of a substantially flat metal plate having an elongated base portion and a plurality of electrical connection portions, each of said electrical connection portions extending from one side of said elongated base portion and being in alignment with each other; and housing means having a rear wall and side walls extending around the perimeter of said rear wall and an opening at a front wall, said opening being opposed to said rear wall, said housing means having a plurality of interior terminal housings between adjacent interior spacing walls, said interior spacing walls extending from said rear wall to said front wall, each of said interior terminal housings accommodating any one of said plurality of terminals therein, each of said interior terminal housings being in alignment with each other side by side, said housing means being provided with an elongated groove extending between an opposed pair of said side walls through said interior spacing walls and opening at said front wall side for receiving said joint terminal means therein, so that when said joint terminal means is placed in said elongated groove, at least two of said plurality of terminals accommodated in said interior terminal housings are electrically connected by at least one of said electrical connection portions, said method comprising:
- cutting at least one predetermined portion of said elongated base portion to selectively disconnect at least one of said plurality of electrical connection portions from said joint terminal means;
- inserting said joint terminal means in said elongated groove so as to extend across a predetermined number of said interior terminal housings;
- placing each of said electrical connection portions which are still connected to said joint terminal means inside corresponding ones of said interior terminal housings, said electrical connection portions dividing each of said corresponding interior terminal housing into substantially equal spaces;
- inserting said plurality of terminals into respective spaces defined by corresponding interior terminal housings and electrical connection portions; and
- electrically connecting said plurality of terminals through said corresponding electrical connection portions through said joint terminal means.
- 7. The method for assembling according to claim 6, further comprising:
- inserting said at least one selectively disconnected electrical connection portion in said elongated groove so as to extend across a predetermined number of said interior terminal housings;
- placing each of said electrical connection portions included in said at least one selectively disconnected electrical connection portion inside corresponding ones of said interior terminal housings;
- inserting additional terminals into said spaces defined by said corresponding interior terminal housings and said at least one selectively disconnected electrical connection portions; and
- connecting said additional terminals through said at least one selectively disconnected electrical connection portions.
