Claims
- 1. A golf swing training device comprising in operative combination:
a) an anchor assembly, b) a constant force unit (CFU) assembly securable to said anchor and having a tether; c) a tether comprising a line attached at one end to said CFU and having a length selected to provide a full golf swing from at least the top of a back swing to an address position; d) a handle unit attachable to the other end of said line for grasping by a user; and e) said device providing pull on said handle during back swing to assist in full extension of the lead arm, and substantially constant force on the downswing to promote lead shoulder and arm muscle memory.
- 2. A golf swing training device as in claim 1 wherein said handle includes at least one of: a contoured grip; a rotatable shank journaled in said handle and having a distal end to which the tether is attachable; a rotatable ring to which the tether is attachable; a fixed ring to which the tether is attachable; a stirrup handle assembly; a shepards-crook type shank member extending from one end of said handle; a contoured, self centering guide for said tether; a slotted fan type tether guide; and a stiff, laterally bendable spring secured to one end of said handle.
- 3. A golf swing training device as in claim 1 wherein said anchor includes at least one of a wall-mounted plate, an over-the-door-bracket; and a free standing pole mount.
- 4. A golf swing training device wherein said CFU includes at least one of a weight system, a spring system, and a reverse-wound ribbon spring assembly.
- 5. A golf swing training device as in claim 4 wherein said CFU is a reverse wound ribbon spring assembly comprising an output reel having a spool for said tether and at least one spool to receive a ribbon spring, and a spring supply reel having at least one spool for a ribbon spring, and a reverse wound spring connecting said spools.
- 6. A golf swing training device as in claim 5 wherein said reels provide at least two ribbon springs.
- 7. A golf swing training device as in claim 5 wherein said CFU includes one of a line brake, a stop, a pay station, a counter, or an annunciator associated with said device.
- 8. A golf swing training device as in claim 1 which includes a training mat having markings associated with usage.
- 9. A golf swing training device as in claim 1 which includes an instructional video.
- 10. A golf swing training system comprising in operative combination;
a. a constant force unit (CFU) linked to a tether and handle to selectably permit at least one of back swing, down swing and follow through exercise repetitions to assist in developing a proper golf swing plane; b. a mounting system for said CFU; c. at least one controller linked to said CFU including a program structure permitting authorized use of said CFU.
- 11. A golf swing training system as in claim 10 wherein at least one said controller is programable to permit access on a pay-for-use basis including at least one of a period of use and number of repetitions.
- 12. A golf swing training system as in claim 11 wherein said controller is a co-located with said CFU.
- 13. A golf swing training system as in claim 11 which includes a pay station associated with said CFU for use payment by cash, token or credit.
- 14. A golf swing training system as in claim 11 wherein a plurality of said CFUs are placed in an array at a site, and said controller is located in at least one of on-site or remotely.
- 15. A golf swing training system as in claim 14 wherein said controller is remotely located and includes CPU, input, and display devices, and computer program structures for access, management, operation, analysis, reports and accounting functions.
- 16. A golf swing training system as in claim 15 wherein said controller includes computer programs for managing a website related to use of said training devices.
- 17. A golf swing training system as in claim 16 wherein said web site includes still and video images showing proper use of said device for training.
- 18. A golf swing training system as in claim 14 wherein said controller is located on-site and is programmable for at least one of automated or attendant monitored operation.
- 19. A golf swing training method for a trainee comprising the steps of:
a) positioning said trainee in a proper golf address stance; b) said trainee is positioned to hold a handle comprising a grip of a golf club without the shaft or head of said club; c) performing by said trainee of at least one of a back swing, a down swing and a follow through swing; d) applying a constant force to said handle while said trainee performs said swing; and e) repeating by said trainee said swing under constant force a plurality of times to assist in developing muscle memory of a proper golf swing plane and to assist in training the lead side to be dominant during at least the down swing.
- 20. Golf swing training method as in claim 19 wherein said handle is contoured, and said constant force is applied with a tether attached to an outboard end of said handle to extend to a constant force unit located generally orthogonal to a shoulder of said golfer.
