Claims
- 1. A skid steer loader attachment, comprising:
an implement having first and second spaced apart pivot support structures with first and second parallel pivot support axes, respectively; a grapple component pivotally secured to the second pivot support structure of the implement; a pair of support ears and a pivot shaft forming the second pivot support structure, the support ears secured to the implement in spaced apart relation, the pivot shaft aligned parallel with the second pivot support axis, the pivot shaft extending between and being support by the support ears with a width that is at least as wide or wider than at least one of the ends of the grapple component; and a hydraulically actuated cylinder having a first end pivotally secured to the first pivot support structure of the implement and a second end pivotally secured to the grapple component, the hydraulically actuated cylinder being expandable and retractable to pivot the grapple component relative to the implement.
- 2. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the pivot shaft acts as a physical barrier to objects that may be gripped between the grapple tooth component and implement that would damage the skid steer loader and any hoses or fittings or hydraulic actuators that may be secured to the implement if the gripped material should be forced toward the skid steer loader and through a gap between the implement and the grapple component absent the pivot shaft.
- 3. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the support ears provide bearing surfaces pivotally supporting the pivot shaft.
- 4. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 3 wherein the grapple component comprises spaced apart bearing supports engaging the pivot shaft, the bearing supports interposed between the support ears.
- 5. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the grapple component is pivotally supported along the second pivot support axis through only one pivot shaft.
- 6. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein at least one of the ends of the grapple component is a connection end proximate the second pivot support axis, the connection end being supported by the pivot shaft.
- 7. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the skid steer loader attachment comprises two grapple components independently pivotally secured to the implement.
- 8. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the hydraulically actuated cylinder comprises a barrel and an actuation rod sliding relative to the barrel, the actuation rod having a first portion inside the barrel secured to an actuation piston and a second portion outside the barrel providing said second end, further comprising a protective shield member secured to said second end, the protective shield member extending towards the barrel and having an overall length greater than the second portion of the actuation rod when the hydraulically actuated cylinder is fully expanded.
- 9. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 8 wherein the protective shield member is positioned such that relative movement of the actuation rod allows the protective shield member to continuously cover the second portion of the actuation rod in all positions of the actuation rod during sliding movement.
- 10. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 1 wherein the implement is a collecting bucket having an upstanding rear wall that in use is adjacent the loader arms of the skid steer loader.
- 11. A skid steer loader attachment, comprising:
an implement having first and second spaced apart pivot support structures with first and second parallel pivot support axes, respectively; a component pivotally secured to the second pivot support structure of the implement; a hydraulically actuated cylinder having a first end pivotally secured to the first pivot support structure of the implement and a second end pivotally secured to the component, the hydraulically actuated cylinder being expandable and retractable to pivot the component relative to the implement, wherein the hydraulically actuated cylinder comprises a barrel and an actuation rod sliding relative to the barrel, the actuation rod having a first portion inside the barrel secured to an actuation piston and a second portion outside the barrel providing said second end; and a protective shield member secured to said second end for movement with the actuation rod, the protective shield member extending towards the barrel and having an overall length greater than the second portion of the actuation rod when the hydraulically actuated cylinder is fully expanded.
- 12. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 11 wherein the protective shield member is positioned such that relative movement of the actuation rod allows the protective shield member to continuously cover the second portion of the actuation rod in all positions of the actuation rod during sliding movement.
- 13. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 12 wherein the protective shield member includes a first section sliding over the barrel and a second section covering the second portion of the actuation rod.
- 14. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 11 wherein the implement is a collecting bucket having an upstanding rear wall that in use is adjacent the loader arms of the skid steer loader, and wherein the component is a grapple.
- 15. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 14 further comprising means of a single pivot shaft for physically barring objects that may be gripped between the grapple tooth component and implement that would damage the skid steer loader and any hoses or fittings or hydraulic actuators that may be secured to the implement if the gripped material should be forced toward the skid steer loader and through a gap between the implement and the grapple component absent the single pivot shaft.
- 16. A skid steer loader attachment, comprising:
an implement having first and second spaced apart pivot support structures with first and second parallel pivot support axes, respectively; a component pivotally secured to the second pivot support structure of the implement; a hydraulically actuated cylinder having a first end pivotally secured to the first pivot support structure of the implement and a second end pivotally secured to the component, the hydraulically actuated cylinder being expandable and retractable to pivot the component relative to the implement between first and second mechanical stops acting on the component, wherein the hydraulically actuated cylinder comprises a barrel and a piston sliding inside of the barrel, the piston driving an actuation rod relative to the barrel, the piston dividing the barrel into first and second fluid chambers, the first and second fluid chambers having first and second supply/return ports proximate opposing ends of the barrel, respectively, for receiving pressurizing fluid or exhausting fluid; and a hydraulic cushioning mechanism for slowing movement of the component near at least one of the mechanical stops, the hydraulic cushioning mechanism including a first restriction diminishing fluid being exhausted through the first supply/return port over a first range of movement piston, the piston having a second range of movement wherein full fluid flow is experienced through the first supply/return port without restriction by the first restriction.
- 17. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 16 wherein the hydraulic cushioning mechanism slows movement of the component as the component approaches both of the mechanical stops.
- 18. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 16 wherein the first restriction comprises a reduced diameter section on the piston providing an annular flow channel between the piston and the barrel.
- 19. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 16 wherein the hydraulic cushioning mechanism comprises a second restriction diminishing fluid being exhausted through the second supply/return port over a third range of movement piston, the piston having a fourth range of movement wherein full fluid flow is experienced through the second supply/return port without restriction by the second restriction.
- 20. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 16 wherein the first and second restrictions comprises first and second reduced diameter sections in spaced axial relation on the piston providing annular flow channels between the piston and the barrel.
- 21. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 16 wherein the implement is a collecting bucket having an upstanding rear wall that in use is adjacent the loader arms of the skid steer loader, and wherein the component is a grapple.
- 22. The skid steer loader attachment of claim 21 further comprising means of a single pivot shaft for physically barring objects that may be gripped between the grapple tooth component and implement that would damage the skid steer loader and any hoses or fittings or hydraulic actuators that may be secured to the implement if the gripped material should be forced toward the skid steer loader and through a gap between the implement and the grapple component absent the single pivot shaft.
- 23. The skid steer attachment of claim 21 wherein the hydraulically actuated cylinder comprises a barrel and an actuation rod sliding relative to the barrel, the actuation rod having a first portion inside the barrel secured to an actuation piston and a second portion outside the barrel providing said second end, further comprising a protective shield member secured to said second end, the protective shield member extending towards the barrel and having an overall length greater than the second portion of the actuation rod when the hydraulically actuated cylinder is fully expanded.
