Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a building construction site light and cable system. In particular, it relates to a light and cable system that hangs from an overhead I-beam, pipes, and/or wood beams in the construction site, and provides lights, cable holders, electrical outlets and other items.
Description of Related Art
The construction of a building, especially the construction of a commercial building, runs into several safety problems during construction. Light needs to be provided before fixtures are in place, outlets need to be provided before they are available, and power cords for equipment, electricity, compressors and the like are required to be off the floor, where they are out of the way of workers and others walking around. In addition, communication between workers is necessary.
While some devices for holding cables are known, and certainly lights and outlets are well-known, providing them all at once presents a problem, and frequently means use of several devices. In some cases, it means jury rigging a number of different ways of getting equipment cables out of the way. As regulations continue to tighten, there needs to be a better means, especially in commercial construction sites, to provide organization for these construction needs. Construction sites frequently have overhead I-beams, pipes and/or wood beams.
The present invention provides a device which attaches to an overhead I-beam, pipe or wood beam in a building construction setting and therefrom hangs cable holders, lights and receptacles and/or power cords, in order to overcome the obstacles currently endured in commercial and residential construction.
Accordingly, in one embodiment, there is a light and cable system for use in a construction site, having at least one of an overhead I-beam, an overhead pipe, or an overhead wood beam, the I-beam having an upper and lower flange, the system comprising:
While this invention is susceptible to embodiment in many different forms, there is shown in the drawings, and will herein be described in detail, specific embodiments, with the understanding that the present disclosure of such embodiments is to be considered as an example of the principles and not intended to limit the invention to the specific embodiments shown and described. In the description below, like reference numerals are used to describe the same, similar or corresponding parts in the several views of the drawings. This detailed description defines the meaning of the terms used herein and specifically describes embodiments in order for those skilled in the art to practice the invention.
The terms “about” and “essentially” mean±10 percent.
The terms “a” or “an”, as used herein, are defined as one or as more than one. The term “plurality”, as used herein, is defined as two or as more than two. The term “another”, as used herein, is defined as at least a second or more. The terms “including” and/or “having”, as used herein, are defined as comprising (i.e., open language). The term “coupled”, as used herein, is defined as connected, although not necessarily directly, and not necessarily mechanically.
The term “comprising” is not intended to limit inventions to only claiming the present invention with such comprising language. Any invention using the term comprising could be separated into one or more claims using “consisting” or “consisting of” claim language and is so intended.
References throughout this document to “one embodiment”, “certain embodiments”, and “an embodiment” or similar terms means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present invention. Thus, the appearances of such phrases in various places throughout this specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. Furthermore, the particular features, structures, or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments without limitation.
The term “or” as used herein is to be interpreted as an inclusive or meaning any one or any combination. Therefore, “A, B or C” means any of the following: “A; B; C; A and B; A and C; B and C; A, B and C”. An exception to this definition will occur only when a combination of elements, functions, steps or acts are in some way inherently mutually exclusive.
The drawings featured in the figures are for the purpose of illustrating certain convenient embodiments of the present invention, and are not to be considered as limitations thereto. The term “means” preceding a present participle of an operation indicates a desired function for which there is one or more embodiments, i.e., one or more methods, devices, or apparatuses for achieving the desired function and that one skilled in the art could select from these or their equivalent in view of the disclosure herein and use of the term “means” is not intended to be limiting.
As used herein, the term “light and cable system” refers to a device for providing electric light (AC or DC) and for holding cable, and other items, off the floor, in a construction site in a temporary manner. Once the construction is completed, the cables and system are removed and utilized at the next site. Other items include: electrical outlets, a Wi-Fi hub, speakers (for communication or music, etc.), and the like. In one embodiment, communication systems are made wirelessly through use of Wi-Fi and use of speakers.
As used herein, the term “construction site” refers to the construction of a building wherein there are overhead I-beams, pipes, and/or wood beams, that are exposed during the construction of the building.
As used herein, the term “I-beam” refers to a structural steel beam used in construction having an I or H-shaped cross section. They are utilized for carrying heavy loads like floors. “Pipes” are overhead pipes, strong enough to hang the device from and “wood beams” are 2×4, 2×6, 2×8 or the like, that are structured overhead wood beams.
As used herein, the term “flange” refers to the horizontal elements of the I of the I-beam. Accordingly, there is an upper flange and a lower flange, with the upright portion called the web. The lower flange has both a left and a right side, the sides on either side of the web.
As used herein, the term “a device attaching to the lower flange” refers to a device that attaches to either the left or right side, or both, of the lower flanges by any type of clamp, screw device, hook, or compression device or via the light, that attaches a device to the flange such that something of weight can be hung from the device. It also refers to attaching to a pipe or clamping around a pipe as in
As used herein, the term “hanging device” refers to a device hung from the device attaching to the flange that allows or has several devices for use in the construction site. In one embodiment, there is a center pole which various devices are hung from. The length of the device, in one embodiment, is about 6, 7, or 8 foot in length.
As used herein, the term “hooks for holding cable” refers to u-shaped hooks that cables can be draped over and hold the cables off the ground, as shown in
As used herein, the term “light” refers to an alternating current light or direct current light, for example, one or more LED lights positioned anywhere on the system. In one embodiment, the light is at either a top portion or a bottom portion or along the length.
As used herein, the term “electrical outlet” refers to an alternating current or direct current place to plug in any electrical device, such as tools and chargers and the like used in a construction site. A “device for powering the system” refers to a device that can be attached to an AC or DC power source that can power the system or provide electrical services to the user of the system.
As used herein, the term “tie off points” refers to holes provided in the system to tie things to.
As used herein, the term “power cable conduit” refers to an electrical conduit, usually attached to the I-beam, that provides live current to attach the system to power the system.
Other devices can be used on the system, such as power cords and USB receptacles, Wi-Fi hubs, speakers (used for announcements, music, etc.), communications systems and the like. In one embodiment, multiple light and cable system devices are used as a communication system. Wherein a Wi-Fi system in each light and cable system receives a broadcast message which is played through a speaker in each system. In one embodiment, lights (e.g. red) flash when there is a communication.
Now referring to the drawings,
Those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains may make modifications resulting in other embodiments employing principles of the present invention without departing from its spirit or characteristics, particularly upon considering the foregoing teachings. Accordingly, the described embodiments are to be considered in all respects only as illustrative, and not restrictive, and the scope of the present invention is, therefore, indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description or drawings. Consequently, while the present invention has been described with reference to particular embodiments, modifications of structure, sequence, materials and the like apparent to those skilled in the art still fall within the scope of the invention as claimed by the applicant.
