Claims
- 1. A consumable container for an asphalt or oil package made from a molded material comprising (a) from about 40 to about 90 percent by weight of an asphalt and (b) from about 10 to about 60 percent by weight of a polymer material, wherein the polymer material comprises (i) from about 50 to about 95 percent by weight of a first polymer having a melting point of at least about 150.degree. C. and (ii) from about 5 to about 50% by weight of a second polymer that imparts toughness and impact resistance such that the molded material has an unnotched Izod impact strength of at least about 2 joules.
- 2. The container of claim 1, wherein the molded material comprises from about 55 to about 75 percent by weight of the asphalt and from about 25 to about 45 percent by weight of the polymer material.
- 3. The container of claim 2, wherein the first polymer is polypropylene and the second polymer is ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 4. The container of claim 1, wherein the first polymer is polypropylene.
- 5. The container of claim 1, wherein the second polymer is ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 6. The container of claim 1, wherein the molded material has a ring and ball softening point higher than about 107.degree. C.
- 7. The container of claim 6, wherein the ring and softening point is higher than about 149.degree. C.
- 8. The container of claim 1, comprising a receptacle wall having one or more recesses to facilitate heat transfer.
- 9. The container of claim 1, comprising a receptacle wall that is thicker near the top of the container than at the bottom of the container.
- 10. The container of claim 1, comprising a receptacle wall and one or more handholds.
- 11. The container of claim 1, comprising a receptacle wall and one or more strengthening ribs.
- 12. The container of claim 1, comprising a receptacle wall having an embossment thereon.
- 13. The container of claim 1, in which the asphalt is a paving-grade asphalt.
- 14. The container of claim 1, in which the asphalt is a roofing asphalt.
- 15. The container of claim 1, in which the consumable container includes a snap-on or screw-on lid.
