Claims
- 1. A method of dispensing a liquid onto a surface with a dispensing appliance, a liquid reservoir filled with a liquid product and a fitment for establishing a fluid communication between said dispensing appliance and said reservoir wherein said dispensing appliance comprises a dispensing opening and a means for conducting a liquid product from said fitment to said dispensing opening, and wherein said fitment comprises at least one piercable means and at least one needle for piercing said piercable means, said at least one needle being in fluid communication with said means for conducting a liquid product, and a movable protecting means for preventing access to said at least one needle when said reservoir is not connected to said appliance, said movable protecting means being movable from a first position, where access to said at least one needle is prevented, to a second position, where access to said at least one needle is possible, said method comprising the steps of:
contacting said reservoir to said piercable means; moving said protecting means such that said piercable means is pierced by said at least one needle whereby said liquid product in said reservoir can flow from said reservoir to said dispensing opening through said needle and through said conducting means; and dispensing said liquid product from said dispensing opening onto said surface.
- 2. The method of dispensing a liquid onto a surface according to claim 1 wherein said protecting means is moved by applying directly or indirectly manual force to said protecting means.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said needle comprises a hole on its lateral side.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said fitment further comprises a one-way valve for venting said reservoir.
- 5. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said movable protecting means is spring loaded such that said protecting means returns from said second position to said first position when manual force ceases to be applied to said protecting means.
- 6. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said dispensing appliance further comprises a housing for receiving said reservoir.
- 7. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said at least one needle has an outside diameter comprised within the range of 0.7 to 7 mm.
- 8. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein has an internal diameter comprised within the range of 0.5 to 2 mm
- 9. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said fitment is substantially leak-tight such that a leak-tight fluid communication is established between said at least one needle and said piercable means.
- 10. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said reservoir has at least one recess therein, and said dispensing appliance comprises at least one protrusion, wherein said at least one protrusion on said appliance fits into said at least one recess in said reservoir
- 11. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 4 wherein said one-way valve is a duckbill valve.
- 12. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 9 wherein said piercable means is a membrane.
- 13. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 10 wherein said at least one recess and said at least one protrusion act as a locking mechanism which maintains said reservoir in contact with said piercable means when said protrusion engages said recess.
- 14. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said dispensing opening comprises a nozzle.
- 15. The method of dispensing a liquid according to claim 1 wherein said liquid is dispensed onto said surface in the form of a spray.
