Claims
- 1. A fabricated plastic container molded of a plastic composition and having an exterior surface portion with a continuous solidified layer of gas impermeable material initially liquid coated onto a predetermined zone thereof, and a pre-printed peelable label adhered to said container over and onto said gas impermeable material layer and being generally contiguous with the peripheral boundary thereof, the exterior surface of the portion of the container covered by said layer of gas impermeable material having silk screen imprinted indicia disposed on the surface of the article beneath the layer of gas impermeable material, said gas impermeable material being transparent so that the silk screen indicia is visible therethrough when said label is removed from said container, and wherein said pre-printed peelable label has been applied over the silk screen article-imprinted indicia such that the indicia pre-printed on the label registers in superimposed relation with, and duplicates, the silk screen article-imprinted indicia beneath the, adhered label whereby application of the label to the container and subsequent removal of the label from the container does not substantially alter the trade dress of the container, and wherein the gas impermeable material comprises a silk screening ink.
- 2. The container set forth in claim 1 wherein said pre-printed label is affixed by a peelable adhesive to the gas impermeable coating so as to be removable from the container by peeling of the label therefrom.
- 3. The container set forth in claim 1 wherein said gas impermeable fluid material consists of a non-pigmented clear silk screen ink.
- 4. The container set forth in claim 1 wherein said label is selected from the group consisting of:(a) a pre-printed self-adhering label bearing heat-sensitive adhesive, (b) a pre-printed self-adhering label bearing a pressure-sensitive adhesive, (c) a self-adhering pre-printed label made of metalized gas impermeable material.
- 5. A fabricated plastic article that comprises an empty open container of molded plastic material made by a blow molding machine operable such that out-gassing occurs from the material of the container at its surfaces for a time period subsequent to de-molding of the container from the machine, said container having a solidified barrier layer that is gas permeation resistant applied onto a designated exterior-surface portion of the container shortly after blow-molding thereof as a continuous layer of quick-drying liquid that dries very quickly to thereby rapidly form the barrier layer, and said container also having a label adherently applied onto said barrier layer prior to completion of said out-gassing period of time but shortly after solidification of said barrier layer and such that said solidified barrier layer underlies substantially all of the underside surface of the label, thereby having sufficiently impeded out-gassing from the plastic material of the container through the solidified layer that label bubbling due to container out-gassing beneath the adhered label is prevented and wherein said barrier layer has been applied by silk screening apparatus having layer applying means operable for silk screen imprinting the continuous layer of quick-drying liquid material, and wherein said liquid material comprises a silk screening ink that solidifies to form said barrier layer.
- 6. The mold-fabricated plastic container set forth in claim 5 wherein said barrier layer is transparent and said container that bears labeling indicia in a given format on an exterior surface portion of the container applied beneath said barrier layer by silk screen ink-imprinting of the label indicia prior to applying said barrier layer, and said label comprises a pre-printed peelable label applied and adhered over the silk screen article-imprinted indicia layer and barrier layer such that the indicia pre-printed on the label registers in superimposed relation with, and duplicates, the silk screen article-imprinted indicia beneath the adhered label whereby removal of the label from the container does not substantially alter the trade dress of the container.
- 7. A fabricated plastic article that comprises an empty open container of molded plastic material made by a blow molding machine operable such that out-gassing occurs from the material of the container at its surfaces for a time period subsequent to de-molding of the container from the machine, said container having a solidified barrier layer that is gas permeation resistant applied onto a designated exterior-surface portion of the container shortly after blow-molding thereof as a continuous layer of quick-drying liquid that dries very quickly to thereby rapidly form the barrier layer, and said container also having a label adherently applied onto said barrier layer prior to completion of said out-gassing period of time but shortly after solidification of said barrier layer and such that said solidified barrier layer underlies substantially all of the underside surface of the label, thereby having sufficiently impeded out-gassing from the plastic material of the container through the solidified layer that label bubbling due to container out-gassing beneath the adhered label is prevented, and wherein said gas impermeable liquid material forming said barrier layer is selected from the group consisting of: non-pigmented clear silk screen ink and color pigmented silk screen ink.
- 8. The container set forth in claim 7 wherein said label is selected from the group consisting of:(a) a pre-printed self-adhering label bearing heat-sensitive adhesive, (b) a pre-printed self-adhering label bearing a pressure-sensitive adhesive, (c) a self-adhering pre-printed label made of metalized gas impermeable material, (d) a pre-printed self-adhering label bearing a peelable adhesive, (e) a pre-printed self-adhering transparent label, and (f) a pre-printed self-adhering translucent label.
- 9. The container set forth in claim 8 further having a silk screen imprinted label indicia on an exterior surface portion of the container that is at least partially coincident with the exterior surface portion of the container bearing the continuous layer of gas permeation resistant material, said pre-printed labels having been pre-printed to bear indicia replicating that of the silk screen imprinted indicia, said pre-printed label being peelable and registered and oriented over the silk screen imprinted indicia layer such that the indicia pre-printed on the label duplicates the silk screen imprinted indicia beneath the adhered label whereby removal of the label from the container does not substantially alter the container trade dress.
