The present invention relates to removable covers for containers or canisters, more particularly, to lids for welding rod containers.
Welding rods are typically packaged in containers, such as but not limited to, fifty-pound boxes. Welders generally only use a few welding rods at any one time. The open box of welding rods is then typically closed with tape to protect the rods remaining in the box from moisture, contaminants and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a reusable container lid forming a watertight seal about an open end of a container.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a flexible reusable container lid forming a primary seal and a secondary seal with a container.
A container lid may include a lid body having a generally planar top portion and a circumferential sidewall extending downward from the top portion thereof. A rib member extending downward from the top portion of the container lid may be spaced inward from the sidewall defining a circumferential channel therebetween configured to receive an open end of a container and form a watertight seal about the container. The top portion of the lid body may include a recessed portion adapted for forming a secondary seal with the container.
So that the manner in which the above recited features, advantages and objects of the present invention are attained can be understood in detail, a more particular description of the invention briefly summarized above, may be had by reference to the embodiments thereof which are illustrated in the appended drawings.
It is noted, however, that the appended drawings illustrate only typical embodiments of this invention and are therefore not to be considered limiting of its scope, for the invention may admit to other equally effective embodiments.

The container lid 100 may be fabricated of a flexible polymer material, such as but not limited to, rubber and silicone material. EPDM (ethylene, propylene, diene monomer rubber), for example but without limitation, includes suitable properties in that it is durable, UV resistant, and is sufficiently flexible to provide a watertight seal about the container 102, thereby preventing moisture and other contaminants from entering the container 102. The container lid 100 may be coupled to the container 102 by pressing it on to the open end of the container 102. The upper edge of the container 102 may be received in the channel 114 forming a watertight seal therewith. The circumferential protrusion 118 may function to further grip and seal about the open end of the container 102.
