Claims
- 1. A flame retardant composition comprising a brominated diphenylalkane composition which is comprised of 20-35 weight percent of hexabromodiphenylalkane, 20-35 weight percent of heptabromodiphenylalkane and 20-35 weight percent of octabromodiphenylalkane, said composition having a melting point start in the range of 140.degree.-170.degree. C. and a melting point end in the range of 240.degree.-290.degree. C.
- 2. The flame retardant composition of claim 1 wherein the diphenylalkane is diphenylethane.
- 3. The flame retardant composition of claim 2 which has an average bromine number in the range of 6.7 to 7.5.
- 4. A flame retardant composition comprising a brominated diphenylethane composition which is comprised of 5-15 weight percent of hexabromodiphenylethane, 7-20 weight percent of heptabromodiphenylethane, 20-30 weight percent of octabromodiphenylethane, 25-40 weight percent of nonabromodiphenylethane, and 10-25 weight percent of decabromodiphenylethane, said composition having an average bromine number in the range of 7.6 to 8.2, a melting point start in the range of 170-200.degree. C., and a melting point end in the range of 270-320.degree. C.
- 5. A flame retarded formulation comprising:
- a flammable polymer material; and
- a flame retardant amount of a brominated diphenylalkane composition which is comprised of 20-35 weight percent of hexabromodiphenylalkane, 20-35 weight percent of heptabromodiphenylalkane and 20-35 weight percent of octabromodiphenylalkane, said brominated diphenylalkane composition having a melting point start in the range of 140.degree.-170.degree. C. and a melting point end in the range of 240.degree.-290.degree. C.
- 6. A flame retardant composition comprising a brominated diphenylalkane having an average bromine number of 6.7 to 7.5, a melting point start of 140-170.degree. C., and a melting point end in the range of 240-290.degree. C.
- 7. The flame retardant composition of claim 6 wherein the diphenylalkane is diphenylethane.
- 8. A flame retardant composition comprising a brominated diphenylalkane having an average bromine number in the range of 7.6 to 8.2, a melting point start in the range of 170-200.degree. C., and a melting point end in the range of 270-320.degree. C.
- 9. The flame retardant composition of claim 8 wherein the diphenylalkane is diphenylethane.
- 10. A flame retardant composition comprising a brominated diphenylalkane having an average bromine number of 8.3 to 8.9, a melting point start in the range of 220-250.degree. C., and a melting point end in the range of 290-320.degree. C.
- 11. The flame retardant of claim 10 wherein the diphenylalkane is diphenylethane.

This is a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/629,103, filed Apr. 8, 1996 now U.S. Pat. No. 5,741,949, which is hereby incorporated herein by reference in its entirety which is a C.I.P. of Ser. No. 08/318,076, Filed Oct. 5, 1994, now abandoned.
