As a new article of manufacture a continuous series of blanks each suited for subsequent processing into a combination mailing envelope and return envelope having a common back ply panel, said article comprising a series of transversely spaced interconnected blanks each having a back ply panel common to both the mailing envelope and the return envelope, a front ply panel of the mailing envelope integral with said back ply panel; an intermediate, discardible panel integral with and disposed between the front end back ply panels, said intermediate panel separating said front and back ply panels from one another; a front ply panel of the return envelope disposed in registered overlying relationship with three edges of said back ply and having one marginal edge spaced inward from the adjacent marginal edge of said back panel; and adhesive means interposed between and bonding the registered marginal edges of said front ply panel of the return envelope and said back ply panel to one another defining a return envelope pocket open along said one marginal edge.
- 2. An article as called for in claim 1, wherein said front ply panel of the mailing envelope is disposed in direct overlying relationship with said intermediate panel.
- 3. An article as called for in claim 1, including a moistenable adhesive on an upper surface of the marginal edge of the back ply panel adjacent said one marginal edge defining a sealable flap for said return envelope pocket.
- 4. An article as called for in claim 1, having adhesive on at least three edges of one surface of the front ply panel of the mailing envelope.
- 5. An article as called for in claim 1, wherein each blank includes an insert ply panel having three marginal edges in registered overlying relationship with the front ply panel of the return envelope.
- 6. An article as called for in claim 5, having adhesive interposed between and bonding said registered marginal edges of said insert ply panel and the front ply panel of the return envelope to one another.
- 7. An article as called for in claim 6, wherein said insert ply panel is delimited by lines of weakening adjacent marginal edges thereof and inward of said adhesive, providing means for separating said insert ply panel from the front ply panel of the return envelope.
- 8. As an article of manufacture, a continuous series of business forms each suited for subsequent processing into a combination mailing envelope and return envelope having a common back panel, and characterized by and including an attached insert panel having an upper surface which is initially exposed for the reception of original, directly applied indicia comprising:
- a first endless web transversely subdivided by lines of weakening into a series of interconnected blanks each longitudinally subdivided to define a back panel and a mailing envelope front panel which is integral with and hingedly connected to the back panel along a common side edge, each of said panels having transverse top and bottom edges and inner and outer side edges wherein the inner side edges of said panels are hingedly interconnected;
- a window in each of said front panels;
- a second endless web disposed in overlying relationship with the back panels of said first endless web and transversely subdivided by lines of weakening into a series of interconnected return envelope front panels each having transverse top and bottom edges and inner and outer side edges;
- means securing the top, bottom and outer side marginal edges of each of said return envelope front panels in registered connected relationship with the top, bottom and outer side marginal edges of the back panels, with a free inner side marginal edge of the return envelope front panels adjacent the inner side marginal edges of the back panels and the mailing envelope front panels, wherein corresponding back panels and return envelope front panels define return envelopes open along their free inner side marginal edges;
- a third endless web disposed in overlying relationship with the second endless web and transversely subdivided by lines of weakening into a series of interconnected insert panels, each having transverse top and bottom edges and inner and outer side edges;
- transverse lines of weakening along and spaced inwardly of the top and bottom marginal edges of the insert panels for defining therebetween a central, detachable portion bounded by transverse tear strips;
- means securing the tear strips and the outer side edges of the insert panels in registered, connected relationship with the top, bottom and outer side marginal edges of the return envelope front panels, with the inner side marginal edge of the insert panels adjacent the free inner side marginal edges of the return envelopes;
- thereby providing insert panels the upper surfaces of which are fully and completely exposed for the reception of original, directly applied indicia.
- 9. An article as called for in claim 8, wherein transverse lines of weakening are provided along and spaced inwardly of the top and bottom marginal edges and longitudinal lines of weakening are provided along and spaced inwardly of the outer side marginal edges of the back panels and the return envelope front panels for defining in said panels peripheral tear strips outwardly of the secured top, bottom and outer side marginal edges of said panels.
- 10. An article as called for in claim 8, which includes means securing top, bottom and outer side marginal edges of the mailing envelope front panels in registered, connected relationship with the tear strips and outer side marginal edges of the insert panels, with the windows of the mailing envelope front panels revealing selected portions of the original indicia on the upper surfaces of corresponding insert panels.
- 11. An article as called for in claim 10, wherein longitudinal lines of weakening are provided in spaced parallelism with the outer side marginal edges of each of the panels defining in each of said panels an opening tab which when removed from a sealed mailing envelope provides access to the adjacent outer side edges of the mailing envelope front panels whereby said front panels may be peeled back and toward their hinged connection with the back panels for freeing the central portion of the insert panels from the envelope assembly.
- 12. An article as called for in claim 11, wherein the said longitudinal lines of weakening in the back panels and in the return envelope front panels are disposed outwardly beyond the secured outer side marginal edges of said panels whereby removal of the opening tabs of said panels does not open the secured outer side marginal edges of the return envelopes.
- 13. An article as called for in claim 12, wherein transverse lines of weakening are provided along and spaced inwardly of the top and bottom marginal edges of the back panels and the return envelope front panels for defining in said panels transverse tear strips outwardly of the secured top and bottom marginal edges of said panels, whereby removal of said transverse tear strips does not open the said secured top and bottom marginal edge of the return envelopes.
- 14. An article as called for in claim 13, wherein the said transverse tear strips are disposed in registry with the transverse tear strips of the insert panels.
- 15. As a new article of manufacture a business form suited for subsequent processing into a combination mailing envelope and return envelope having a common back panel and an attached insert panel the upper surface of which is initially exposed for reception of original, directly applied indicia, comprising:
- a back panel common to both the mailing envelope and the return envelope;
- a mailing envelope front panel, having a window therein, integral with and hingedly connected to the back panel along a common side edge;
- a return envelope front panel disposed in overlying relationship with the back panel;
- means securing three of four marginal edges of the return envelope front panel in registered, connected relationship with three marginal edges of the back panel with the fourth marginal edge of said front panel disposed adjacent the said common side edge defining the open end of a return envelope;
- an insert panel disposed in overlying relationship with the return envelope front panel;
- means securing three of four marginal edges of the insert panel in registered, connected relationship with the three marginal edges of the return envelope front panel which are secured to the back panel with the fourth marginal edge of the insert panel disposed adjacent the open end of the return envelope;
- said insert panel presenting an upper surface which is completely exposed for the reception of original, directly applied indicia;
- said mailing envelope front panel adapted to be folded about its hinged connection with the back panel onto and in overlying relationship with the upper surface of the insert panel for concealing all but those portions of the insert panel which are exposed in the window of the said front panel;
- means securing three marginal edges of the mailing envelope front panel to corresponding marginal edges of the insert panel;
- and lines of weakening defining lines of tear in each of the four panels along which marginal portions of the panels are removed for freeing and facilitating removal of the insert panel and separating the return envelope from the mailing envelope.
