Claims
- 1. A continuous fiber comprising a helically rolled self-adhered continuous sheet of expanded porous polytetrafluoroethylene, said fiber having an outside surface with a substantially round profile and a single spiralling seam, and said continuous sheet having a coating of a polymeric material thereon.
- 2. A continuous fiber of claim 1 wherein the coating of a polymeric material is a continuous layer.
- 3. A continuous fiber of claim 1 wherein the coating of a polymeric material is a discrete pattern.
- 4. A continuous fiber of claim 3 wherein the discrete pattern is a series of dots.
- 5. A continuous fiber of claim 3 wherein the discrete pattern is a series of stripes.
- 6. A continuous fiber of claim 1 wherein the polymeric material is an elastomeric polymer selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, polyurethane and fluoroelastomers.
- 7. A continuous fiber of claim 1 wherein the polymeric material is an ion exchange resin selected from the group consisting of perfluorosulfonic acid polymer and perfluorocarboxylic acid polymer.
