Claims
- 1. An adducted EPR or EPDM solution made by a process comprising continuously reacting (a) a grafted polymer prepared by interpolymerizing ethylene with at least one olefinic hydrocarbon containing 3-16 carbon atoms and optionally a polyene or cyclic polyene containing 5-10 carbon atoms which has been grafted with a graft monomer in the form of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, acid ester or anhydride, said grafted polymer being dispersed in an oil solution, with (b) an antioxidant polyamine composition in the presence of (c) an aliphatic or phenolic alcohol ethoxylate to form an imide adduct.
- 2. The solution of claim 1 wherein the grafted monomer used in the process is maleic anhydride.
- 3. The solution of claim 1 in which the grafted polymer used in the process is an EPM polymer in which the olefinic hydrocarbon is propylene.
- 4. The solution of claim 1 wherein the ethoxylate used in the process has the structure: ##STR6## wherein x is a number from 1-10 and R is selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic group having from 7-20 carbon atoms and an aryl group or substituted derivative thereof, the substitution being an alkyl group containing 3-20 carbon atoms.
- 5. An adducted EPM or EPDM solution made by a process comprising the continuous sequence of:
- interpolymerizing in an inert organic solvent ethylene, at least one olefinic hydrocarbon having 3-16 carbon atoms and, optionally, a polyene containing 5-10 carbon atoms to produce a polymer;
- grafting said polymer with a grafting monomer selected from the group consisting of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, acid-ester and anhydride to produce a grafted polymer;
- preparing an oil solution of the grafted polymer;
- contacting the oil solution of the grafted polymer with an antioxidant polyamine composition and an aliphatic or phenolic alcohol ethoxylate to react the grafted polymer and form an imide adduct.
- 6. The solution of claim 5 made by a process which includes the step of exchanging the inert organic solvent with an oil to form the oil solution of the grafted polymer.
- 7. The solution of claim 5 wherein the polymer produced in the process is an EPM polymer and the olefinic hydrocarbon is propylene.
- 8. The solution of claim 5 wherein the inert organic solvent used in the process is an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent.
- 9. The solution of claim 5 wherein the grafting monomer used in the process is maleic anhydride.
- 10. The solution of claim 5 wherein the grafting monomer used in the process is present in an amount between 0.5 and 1.5 weight percent of the grafted polymer.
- 11. The solution of claim 5 wherein the antioxidant polyamine composition used in the process is NPPDA.
