Claims
- 1. A rotational or angular phase control apparatus interposed between first and second rotational shafts for controlling a rotational or angular phase between the first and second rotational shafts, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing connected to the first rotational shaft and rotatable together with the first rotational shaft;
- a rotor connected to the second rotational shaft and accommodated in the housing so as to cause a rotation within a predetermined angle with respect to the housing;
- the rotor and the housing cooperatively defining at least one retardation hydraulic chamber and at least one advance hydraulic chamber, the retardation hydraulic chamber causing a volume change opposed to a volume change of the advance hydraulic chamber in accordance with a rotational position of the rotor with respect to the housing;
- a first distribution oil passage including a first groove formed at one axial end of the rotor, the first groove communicating with a first oil passage formed in the second rotational shaft, and at least one first radial passage extending from the first groove in a radial direction and communicating with the at least one advance hydraulic chamber respectively; and
- a second distribution oil passage including a second groove formed at the other end of the rotor, the second groove communicating with a second oil passage formed in the second rotational shaft, and at least one second radial passage extending from the second groove in a radial direction and communicating with the at least one retardation hydraulic chamber respectively.
- 2. An apparatus in accordance with claim 1, wherein
- the rotor and the housing cooperatively define a plurality of retard hydraulic chambers and a plurality of advance hydraulic chambers,
- the first distribution oil passage includes a plurality of first radial passages which extend from the first groove in radial directions so as to communicate with the plurality of advance hydraulic chambers, and
- the second distribution oil passage includes a plurality of second radial passages which extend from the second groove in radial directions so as to communicate with the plurality of retard hydraulic chambers.
- 3. An apparatus in accordance with claim 2, wherein each of the first groove and the second groove is an arc groove extending in a circumferential direction.
- 4. A rotational or angular phase control apparatus for varying a rotational or angular phase between first and second rotational shafts, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing connected to the first rotational shaft and rotatable together with the first rotational shaft;
- a rotor connected to the second rotational shaft and accommodated in the housing so as to cause a rotation within a predetermined angle with respect to the housing;
- the rotor and the housing cooperatively defining a plurality of retardation hydraulic chambers and a plurality of advance hydraulic chambers, the retardation hydraulic chambers causing volume changes opposed to volume changes of the advance hydraulic chambers in accordance with a rotational position of the rotor with respect to the housing, wherein
- a groove passage formed at one axial end of the rotor, the groove passage communicating with a first oil passage formed in the second rotational shaft, a plurality of radial passages extending from the groove passage in radial directions, and each one of said radial passages communicating with a respective one of the plurality of said advance hydraulic chambers; and
- another groove passage formed at the other axial end of the rotor, the another groove passage communicating with a second oil passage formed in the second rotational shaft, and a plurality of another radial passages extending from the another groove passage in radial directions and each one of said another radial passages communicating with a respective one of the plurality of said retardation hydraulic chambers.
- 5. An apparatus in accordance with claim 4, wherein
- said plurality of advance hydraulic chambers are disposed in a circumferential direction at predetermined angular intervals,
- two adjacent advance hydraulic chambers communicate with each other via said radial passages extending from said groove passage formed at the one axial end of said rotor,
- said plurality of retardation hydraulic chambers are disposed in a circumferential direction at predetermined angular intervals, and
- two adjacent retardation hydraulic chambers communicate with each other via said another radial passages extending from said groove passage formed at another axial end of said rotor.
- 6. A rotational or angular phase control apparatus interposed between first and second rotational shafts for varying a rotational or angular phase between the first and second rotational shafts, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing connected to the first rotational shaft and rotatable together with the first rotational shaft;
- a vane rotor connected to the second rotational shaft and having at least one vane integrally supported by a support member, the vane being accommodated in the housing so as to cause a rotation within a predetermined angle with respect to the housing;
- the vane rotor and the housing cooperatively defining at least one hydraulic chamber; and
- a groove passage formed at least at one axial end of the support member of the vane rotor, with at least one radial passage extending from the groove passage in a radial direction and communicating with the hydraulic chamber.
- 7. An apparatus in accordance with claim 6, wherein the vane rotor has at least three vanes.
- 8. An apparatus in accordance with claim 6, wherein the vane rotor and the housing cooperatively defining a plurality of hydraulic chambers.
- 9. An apparatus in accordance with claim 8, wherein the groove passage is connected to the plurality of hydraulic chambers via at least two radial passages.
- 10. An apparatus in accordance with claim 9, wherein
- an advance hydraulic chamber and a retard hydraulic chamber are formed at both ends of the vane in a circumferential direction,
- the groove passage is formed at each axial end of the support member of the vane rotor,
- one of the advance hydraulic chamber and the retard hydraulic chamber is connected to one groove passage formed at one axial end of the support member via one radial passage, and
- the other of the advance hydraulic chamber and the retard hydraulic chamber is connected to another groove passage formed at the other axial end of the support member via another radial passage.
- 11. An apparatus in accordance with claim 10, wherein the groove passage is an arc groove passage extending in the circumferential direction.
- 12. An apparatus in accordance with claim 10, wherein
- an axially extending through passage is provided in the support member so as to connect the one groove passage formed at the one axial end of the support member to an opening formed at the other axial end of the support member, and
- the opening of the axially extending through passage is spaced from the another groove passage formed at the other axial end of the support member.
- 13. An apparatus in accordance with claim 12, wherein
- two oil passages are provided in the second rotational shaft, and
- the two oil passages face to the other axial end of the support member and communicate with the opening of the axially extending through passage and the another groove passage, respectively.
