Claims
- 1. A system for processing a call from a calling party at a calling communication station to a called communication station, the system comprising:a service control point operative to determine whether standard caller identification information for the calling communication station can be provided to the called communication station; network equipment coupled with the service control point, the network equipment being operative to transmit a request for audible caller identification information to the calling communication station in response to a determination that the standard caller identification information cannot be provided to the called communication station, and being operative to complete the call to the called communication station with a distinctive ring indicative of the audible caller identification information provided by the calling party.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the network equipment comprises one of a service node and an intelligent peripheral configured to initiate a new call with the audible caller identification information, the new call being suspended for processing by the service control point, and wherein the service control point is configured to compare an indicator for the new call with a distinctive ring indicator and to control the network equipment to produce the distinctive ring at the called communication station in response to a determination that the indicator matches the distinctive ring indicator.
- 3. A method for processing a call from a calling party at a calling communication station to a called party at a called communication station, the method comprising:at network equipment of a telecommunication network, detecting the call and generating a terminating attempt trigger in response thereto; transmitting a query including the terminating attempt trigger to a service control point (SCP) of the telecommunication network; at the SCP, determining if standard caller identification information can be provided for the call; if no standard caller identification information can be provided, communicating appropriate call control information to the network equipment; in response to the call control information, transmitting a request for audible caller identification information to the calling party; canceling the call if no response to the request is provided; transmitting received audible caller identification information to the called party; completing the call only upon a received indication from the called party; while transmitting the request, determining if signaling information is received from the calling party; if signaling information is received, comparing the received signaling information with a personal identification number provided by the called party for use by a caller such as the calling party; if the received signaling information matches the personal identification number, connecting the call between the called party and the calling party with a distinctive ring to indicate receipt of the received signaling information; and otherwise, playing a reject message to the calling party.
