The present invention relates to portable storage equipment. More specifically, the invention pertains to a convertible bag.
Portable storage equipment, in the form of coolers, totes, and backpacks have been around for years, available in many shapes, styles and sizes. When insulated, these containers can store and transport items of weight, keeping them cool or warm for a period.
One of the issues with insulated portable storage equipment, in the marketplace is that while they can hold weight, they can be large, made of heavy, durable material, designed more for stationary use, and are not necessarily ideal for a user having to carry this type of weight exceedingly long. These containers are generally a singular unit and require the user to haul everything contained in the storage, at one time, while mobile. Another challenge while mobile is that the user may have to carry multiple portable storage equipment to meet the needs of their activity.
One problem the present invention solves is that it is customizable. Another issue solved by the present invention is that it reduces the need to carry multiple types of bags. The inventor is not aware of prior art that teaches, shows, makes obvious, suggests, or discloses the invention mentioned herein. Therefore, what is clearly needed is a bag that will remedy the problems mentioned above.
The present invention solves the problems above, by giving the user the ability to customize the bag as needed, by adding components, stowing, or detaching them, further eliminating the requirement to carry multiple types of bags at one time, to transport goods. Additionally, the present invention allows the user to transport goods that will benefit from an insulated component. The detachable storage component may be insulated and may be detached from the main body of the bag. Additionally, the insulated component has a multipurpose function; retaining a desired temperature for a period or used as housing to store goods. There are no claims being made concerning the length of time goods will stay warm or cold, or to the temperatures that are needed for food to remain safe to consume. The present invention specifically involves a convertible bag.
In one embodiment of the present invention, a convertible bag is provided, comprising a main storage component with a flexible body and a plurality of sides, connected by a fastener along at least one of their sides, and at least one detachable storage component, each with a flexible body and a plurality of sides, further comprising a base panel wall and a top panel wall, connected by a fastener along at least one of their sides, to form an enclosed shape.
The heart of the present invention, is provided, further comprising the detachable storage component, which is convertible to detach, expand, collapse, and stow along at least one side of the main storage component, by a fastener.
In another embodiment of the invention, the detachable storage component, is provided, comprising a gusseted panel, connected by a fastener along at least one of their sides. Also, in another embodiment of the present invention, the detachable storage component may be insulated.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the detachable storage component, is provided, comprising a carry handle. In another embodiment of the present invention, the detachable storage component, is provided comprising a cross-body strap, connected by a fastener, along at least one of their sides.
In an aspect of the invention, a method of attaching the main storage component to the detachable storage component is provided, comprising the steps: a) aligning the main storage component wall fastener with the detachable storage component top panel wall fastener; b) positioning the main storage component and the detachable storage component to its forward facing direction, to align said fastener; and c) connecting the main storage component wall fastener to the detachable storage component top panel wall fastener, to create a seal.
In a further aspect of the present invention, a method of stowing the detachable storage component onto the main storage component is provided, comprising the steps: a) aligning the main storage component with the detachable storage component; b) positioning the main storage component and the detachable storage component to its forward facing direction; c) flattening the detachable storage component, wherein tucking the sides; d) pressing the exterior top panel wall fastener of the detachable storage component against the wall fastener of the main storage component, wherein aligning said fastener; and e) connecting the main storage component wall fastener to the detachable storage component base panel wall fastener, to create a seal.
In one embodiment, the present invention may be constructed using fasteners, selecting from a group comprising elastic, buttons, belting, buckles, magnets, hook & loop closures, zippers, hooks, and snaps, or any combination of fasteners, and are not limited to the scope of the drawings as included and described.
In one embodiment, the present invention may be constructed using textiles selecting from a group comprising canvas, polyester, polyurethane, nylon, rayon, silk, satin, leather, faux leather, denim, cotton, wool, vinyl, upholstery, acrylic, rubber, thermal insulation, foil insulation, and interfacing, or any combination of textiles, and are not limited to the scope of the drawings as included and described. Textiles that provide the flexibility of component sides, combined with the durability of handling the weight of goods intended to be carried, will be most suitable.
In one embodiment, the present invention may be constructed in any combination of shapes selecting from a group comprising a circle, oval, square, rectangle, triangle, octagon, trapezoid, hexagon, diamond, and cylinder, or any combination of shapes, and are not limited to the scope of the drawings as included and described.
The drawings of the present invention are only used as reference and are not designed to limit the scope of the claims.
The accompanying drawings, which are incorporated in and constitute a part of this specification, illustrate several aspects described below. For clarity, embodiments are identified, as to their location; main storage component and detachable storage component. The drawings contain elements that are not discussed in the detailed description of the invention, as it relates to documents in the cross-reference section.
