- 6. A conveyor according to claim 5, wherein said mechanism pivoting groups of two overlapping platforms positioned one behind the other simultaneously permits the number of said groups to be adjustable and wherein the groups are pivotable simultaneously.
- 7. A conveyor according to claim 1, which comprises at least one guide roller running on a guide rail, said guide roller being provided on at least one of the supports of two overlapping platforms, wherein at least one switch is provided in said guide rail, said switch moving said guide roller to a level which is lower than said guide rail.
- 8. A conveyor according to claim 5, which comprises a second driving mechanism connected to one of said supports, said second driving mechanism causing one of said platforms to pivot with respect to said one of said supports.
- 9. A conveyor according to claim 1, wherein said transporter comprises a plurality of links interconnected respectively by pivot pins, wherein two adjacent groups of supports are connected to two of said links, which are interconnected by an upwardly extending pivot pin of said pivot pins, an extension of which intersects overlapping parts of two of the platforms at least substantially vertically.
- 10. A conveyor according to claim 1, wherein in a non-pivoted position of the platforms, said screens are positioned on either side of a vertically extending plane which extends through said pivot axes of said platform and wherein a height dimension of a lower end of each of said screens decreases in a direction away from said vertically extending plane.
- 11. A conveyor as claimed in claim 1, wherein said screens are provided on each of said platforms and each of said screens respectively project downward from opposite lateral sides of said platforms.
- 12. A conveyor, which comprises:at least one flexible elongated transporter having a plurality of links, wherein one of the links is pivotable about a first pin positioned in a first pivot axis with respect to an adjacent link near one end thereof, said link near another end thereof being pivotable with respect to another adjacent link, about a second pin positioned in a second pivot axis which is substantially perpendicular to said first pivot axis, said links having substantially aligned, straight side surfaces. a plurality of platforms which are coupled to said transporter, said platforms supporting objects to be moved by the conveyor; and a driving mechanism which engages said straight side surfaces of said links in order to move said transporter in a longitudinal direction thereof, wherein successive links of said plurality of links comprise overlapping parts near the pivot axes of said links and through which said pivots extend, and wherein said side faces of said links form an at least substantially straight closed surface in an extended position of the transporter and wherein a guide roller is provided to support said platforms, said guide roller rotating about a pin which is parallely mounted with respect to said first pin positioned in said first pivot axis and perpendicular to said second pin positioned in said second pivot axis.
- 13. A conveyor according to claim 12, wherein said links are provided, on opposite sides thereof, with side faces forming an at least substantially straight and closed surface in the extended position of said transport means.
- 14. A conveyor according to claim 12, wherein one of said links are provided with a projecting tongue at one end, said tongue being accomodated within a correspondingly shaped recess in an adjacent end of an adjacent link.
- 15. A conveyor according to claim 14, wherein said link is provided with a projecting tongue at both ends thereof, said tongue being accomodated within a correspondingly shaped recess in the ends of said adjacent link.
- 16. A conveyor according to claim 15, wherein said tongues are staggered 90° with respect to each other.
- 17. A conveyor according to claim 12, wherein the boundary surfaces of facing ends of said links positioned opposite each other extend concentrically around said pivot axes.
- 18. A conveyor comprising:at least one flexible elongated transporter which is movable lengthwise by a driving mechanism; a plurality of overlapping platforms coupled to said transporter by supports, said plurality of overlapping platforms supporting objects to be moved by the conveyor, wherein at least some of the supports connecting said platforms to said transporter are pivotable with respect to said transporter about pivot axes extending at least substantially parallel to a longitudinal direction of said transporter; a mechanism pivoting selected supports and platforms connected thereto about associated pivot axes in at least one predetermined place; wherein screens are provided at the lateral ends of the selected platforms, said screens extending substantially perpendicularly with respect to said pivot axes of said platforms and extend across the entire width dimension of each of said platforms and wherein said upper end portions of said screens respectively connect with each of the platforms.
- 19. The conveyor of claim 18 wherein the screen extends a sufficient amount in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axis such that when the platform associated with the screen is pivoted, the screen decreases the chance that items on an adjacent non-pivoted platform become positioned under the pivoted platform.
- 20. The conveyor of claim 19 wherein the screen extends a sufficient amount in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axis such that when the platform associated with the screen is pivoted, the screen prevents items on an adjacent non-pivoted platform from becoming positioned under the pivoted platform.
- 21. The conveyor of claim 18 wherein the screen extends a sufficient amount in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axis such that when the platform associated with the screen is pivoted, the screen decreases the chance that items on an adjacent non-pivoted platform become wedged under the pivoted platform.
- 22. The conveyor of claim 21 wherein the screen extends a sufficient amount in a direction perpendicular to the pivot axis such that when the platform associated with the screen is pivoted, the screen prevents items on an adjacent non-pivoted platform from becoming wedged under the pivoted platform.
