Claims
- 1. A conveyor system for conveying and aligning pairs of articles having a relatively wide portion and a relatively narrow portion, said conveyor comprising:(a) a pair of substantially parallel conveyors comprising: (1) a first conveyor comprising first dual conveyor bands adapted to engage said relatively wide portion of said first of said articles so as to convey said first of said articles in a forward direction while allowing said relatively narrow portion of said first of said articles to swingably extend therebetween, and a first ramp portion disposed below said first dual conveyor bands and adapted to engage said relatively narrow portion of said first of said articles so that it swings opposite said forward direction as said first of said articles is being conveyed; (2) a second conveyor comprising second dual conveyor bands adapted to engage said relatively wide portion of said second of said articles so as to convey said second of said articles in a forward direction while allowing said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swingably extend therebetween, and a second ramp portion disposed below said second dual conveyor bands and adapted to engage said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles so that it swings in said forward direction as said first of said articles is being conveyed; and (b) a toggling mechanism adjacent said second conveyor that engages said relatively wide portion of said second article so as to cause said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swing in said forward direction prior to engaging said second ramp portion.
- 2. A conveyor according to claim 1 wherein each said first and second conveyor move at substantially equal rates, and each first and second conveyor additionally comprises a registration and release mechanism that engages respective said first and second articles and releases them in a timed sequence, such that said second article is released in advance of said first article.
- 3. A conveyor according to claim 1 additionally comprising a slide at the terminal end of said conveyor adapted to deposit said aligned pairs of articles onto a conveyor.
- 4. A conveyor according to claim 3 additionally comprising a conveyor adapted to contain said aligned pairs of articles.
- 5. A conveyor according to claim 1 additionally comprising a conveyor for a plurality of interlaced conical objects, said conveyor comprising:(a) a conveyor having a longitudinal axis and adapted to transport a plurality of conical objects in a series, said conical objects being in an interlaced arrangement with opposing narrow ends of said cones aligned toward one another; (b) a stabilizer bar positioned substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis and over said conveyor so as to engage said conical objects so as to resist said conical objects from rolling while in said interlaced arrangement.
- 6. A method of conveying and aligning pairs of articles having a relatively wide portion and a relatively narrow portion, said method comprising the steps:(a) providing a pair of substantially parallel conveyors comprising: (1) a first conveyor comprising first dual conveyor bands adapted to engage said relatively wide portion of said first of said articles so as to convey said first of said articles in a forward direction while allowing said relatively narrow portion of said first of said articles to swingably extend therebetween, and a first ramp portion disposed below said dual conveyor bands and adapted to engage said relatively narrow portion of said first of said articles so that it swings opposite said forward direction as said first of said articles is being conveyed; (2) a second conveyor comprising second dual conveyor bands adapted to engage said relatively wide portion of said second of said articles so as to convey a second of said articles in a forward direction while allowing said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swingably extend therebetween, and a second ramp portion disposed below said second dual conveyor bands and adapted to engage said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles so that it swings in said forward direction as said second of said articles is being conveyed; and (3) a toggling mechanism adjacent said second conveyor and that engages said relatively wide portion of said second article so as to cause said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swing in said forward direction prior to engaging said second ramp portion; and (b) advancing said first and second conveyor so as to cause said first and second articles to align aside one another such that the narrow portion of said first article is adjacent said wide portion of said second article.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein said articles are cones.
- 8. A method according to claim 6 further comprising maintaining said first and second articles aligned aside one another while placing said first and second articles into a container.
- 9. A conveyor system for conveying and aligning pairs of articles having a relatively wide portion and a relatively narrow portion, said conveyor comprising:(a) a pair of substantially parallel conveyors comprising: (1) a first conveyor adapted convey said first of said articles in a forward direction, said first of said articles oriented on said first conveyor so as to have said relatively wide portion in said forward direction; (2) a second conveyor comprising dual conveyor bands adapted to engage said relatively wide portion of said second of said articles so as to convey said second of said articles in a forward direction while allowing said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swingably extend therebetween, and a second ramp portion disposed below said second dual conveyor bands and adapted to engage said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles so that it swings in said forward direction as said first of said articles is being conveyed; and (b) a toggling mechanism adjacent said second conveyor that engages said relatively wide portion of said second article so as to cause said relatively narrow portion of said second of said articles to swing in said forward direction prior to engaging said second ramp portion.
- 10. A conveyor according to claim 9 wherein each said first and second conveyor move at substantially equal rates, and each first and second conveyor additionally comprises a registration and release mechanism that engages respective said first and second articles and releases them in a timed sequence, such that said second article is released in advance of said first article.
- 11. A conveyor according to claim 1 additionally comprising a slide at the terminal end of said conveyor adapted to deposit said aligned pairs of articles onto a conveyor.
- 12. A conveyor according to claim 3 additionally comprising a conveyor adapted to contain said aligned pairs of articles.
