Claims
- 1. A tool comprising:
- a moving working element, said moving working element adapted for moving along a circular path and performing work while moving along a first length of said path;
- a portion of said working element moving into a fixed actuation structure while moving into said first length of said path, and then moving out of said first length, said actuation structure including a cam surface, said portion moving along said cam surface, said cam surface being configured to actuate said portion to actuate said working element.
- 2. The tool as recited in claim 1, wherein said actuation structure includes guide structure with lateral walls, said portion including a guide member received between said lateral walls, said cam surface being formed on a vertically lowermost surface of said actuation structure, said cam surface being located in an area where an actuation signal is desired, said portion moving along in contact with said cam surface and being moved vertically by said cam surface to actuate said working element.
- 3. The tool as recited in claim 1, wherein said portion is forced vertically upwardly to actuate a clamp member.
- 4. A tool system comprising:
- a rotating work element adapted to rotate into a path, and performing work while moving along said path, said work element carrying a clamp, said clamp being adapted to clamp a moving workpiece such that work is performed on said moving workplece, said clamp including two pivoting members which pivot about an axis on said work element, said two clamp members breaking a plane extending through an axis of movement of said moving workpiece, and then being actuated to clamp said moving workpiece.
- 5. The tool system as recited in claim 4, wherein said clamp includes an actuation member received in a guide structure while said work element moves along said path, said actuation member including a portion received between two walls of said guide structure, said portion including a pair of rollers which roll along a bottom of said guide structure, said guide structure being shaped such that it causes said rollers to move while said work element is moving along said path to actuate said clamp.
- 6. The tool system as recited in claim 5, wherein a pivot point for said clamp includes a toggle mechanism connected to one of said two pivoting members, such that movement of said rollers vertically causes said toggle element to actuate and move said two pivoting members to a clamping position.
