Claims
- 1. A conveyor comprising a chain mounted by means including a plurality of sprockets for movement therearound, said chain being composed of interfitting links pivoted together at pivot axes, eccentrics at said pivot axes having sprocket-engaging surfaces, and means for rocking said eccentrics relative to said axes of the chain as it passes onto and off each sprocket; said rocking means including an oscillatable lever connected to each eccentric, said oscillatable lever being fixed to the eccentric on one link and extending to a transversely mounted slide on the adjacent link to which the lever is connected, said slide extending outwardly from its mounting link at both sides and carrying a cam follower at each side, a cam guide extending along the conveyor for engaging with one of the cam followers and cams adjacent the sprockets for engaging with the other cam follower.
- 2. A conveyor according to claim 1 in which the slide has the cam followers in the form of guide rollers, one roller cooperating with the cam guide extending along the conveyor and the other roller cooperating with a cam adjacent a sprocket for positioning the slide as it approaches the cam guide so that the other roller will be positioned properly to enter thereinto.
- 3. A conveyor according to claim 1 in which the chain links have overlapping ends pivoted together by pivot pins and the chain passes around the plurality of sprockets, each of said links having one end pivoted to one pin and the other end carried by an eccentric on the adjacent pin, rocking of said eccentrics varying the distance between adjacent pins.
- 4. A conveyor according to claim 3 including support and guide rollers on said pivot pins, guides along the conveyor for engaging said rollers, and additional curved guides around the sprockets for engaging said rollers to hold the sprocket-engaging surfaces of the eccentrics in the sprockets.
- 5. A conveyor comprising a chain formed of interfitting links having overlapping ends pivoted together at pivot axes by transverse hinge pins and passing around sprockets, eccentrics at said pivot axes having sprocket-engaging surfaces, and means for rocking said eccentrics relative to said axes as the chain passes onto and off the sprockets, including a first end of each link pivoted on one hinge pin and a second end pivoted to the next pin which carries one of the eccentrics rotatable on the latter pin but being fixed to that second end of the link so that swinging of the link about that latter hinge pin as it passes onto and off a sprocket rocks the eccentric about that hinge pin.
- 6. A conveyor according to claim 5 in which the second end of the link and the eccentric are axially adjacent on the hinge pin and are pinned together by a transverse pin.
