Claims
- 1. A conveyor system for transporting articles along a treatment path in a treatment area, comprising:
a conveyor forming a closed drive loop that includes a first drive segment and a second drive segment laterally spaced from and parallel to said first drive segment in the treatment area; and a plurality of first and second pendulums each coupled to move with said conveyor, the first pendulums moving along said first drive segment and the second pendulums moving along said second drive segment, one of said first pendulums and one of said second pendulums defining an aligned and opposed pair of pendulums in the treatment area.
- 2. The conveyor system of claim 1 further including a positioning take-up engaging said conveyor to permit adjustment of the alignment of said pair of pendulums.
- 3. The conveyor system of claim 1 further including a carrier assembly having a center of gravity, wherein said pair of pendulums are coupled to the carrier assembly proximate said center of gravity, and wherein said conveyor system further includes a guide assembly having a first element coupled to move with the carrier assembly and a second element engaging the first element to stabilize the rotational orientation of the carrier assembly.
- 4. The conveyor system of claim 3 wherein the first element of the guide assembly is a guide member and the second element is a guide track, said guide member having a first end disposed for movement in said guide track and a second end coupled to said carrier assembly at a point spaced along the carrier assembly from said center of gravity.
- 5. The conveyor system of claim 4 wherein said guide member is coupled to said carrier assembly rearward of said center of gravity.
- 6. The conveyor system of claim 5 wherein said guide member is one of a pendulum, pin, or roller.
- 7. The conveyor system of claim 3 wherein the second element of the guide assembly has a varying vertical separation relative to the conveyor to selectively change the angular position of the carrier assembly.
- 8. The conveyor system of claim 1 wherein said first drive segment includes a first linear segment and a first curve segment, wherein said second drive segment includes a second linear segment and a second curve segment, wherein said first and second linear segments and said second curve segment having a first conveyance speed and said first curve segment having a second conveyance speed.
- 9. The conveyor system of claim 8 wherein said first curve segment has a first radius, said second curve segment has a second radius, said second radius being less than said first radius, and wherein said second conveyance speed is greater than said first conveyance speed.
- 10. The conveyor system of claim 8 further including a carrier assembly having a center of gravity, wherein said pair of pendulums are coupled to the carrier assembly proximate said center of gravity, wherein said conveyor system further includes a guide assembly having a first element coupled to move with the carrier assembly and a second element engaging the first element to stabilize the rotational orientation of the carrier assembly, and wherein said second element includes a lateral offset in said curve segments.
- 11. The conveyor system of claim 1 wherein each of said first and second pendulums have a generally L-shape with a vertical arm and a leg extending laterally therefrom that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 12. The conveyor system of claim 11 wherein at least one of the first and second pendulums includes a rotatable connection to permit rotation of the pendulum.
- 13. The conveyor system of claim 1 wherein each of the first and second pendulums have a generally T-shape with a vertical arm and a lateral cross-member that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 14. A conveyor system for transporting articles along a treatment path in a treatment area, comprising:
a carrier assembly; at least one conveyor defining a first drive segment and a second drive segment, said second drive segment being laterally spaced from and parallel to said first drive segment in the treatment area; a plurality of carrying pendulums coupled to the carrier assembly and to move with the at least one conveyor in aligned and opposed pairs in the treatment area, one pendulum of each pair moving along the first drive segment and the other pendulum of each pair moving along the second drive segment; and a guide assembly having a first element coupled to move with the carrier assembly and a second element engaging the first element in the treatment area to stabilize the rotational orientation of the carrier assembly.
- 15. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein the carrier assembly has a center of gravity, wherein the pendulums of each pair are coupled to the carrier assembly proximate said center of gravity, and wherein said first element of said guide assembly is spaced along the carrier assembly from said center of gravity.
- 16. The conveyor system of claim 15 wherein the pendulums of each pair are coupled to the carrier assembly slightly forward of said center of gravity and the first element of said guide assembly is coupled to the carrier assembly rearward of said center of gravity.
- 17. The conveyor system of claim 15 wherein the first element of the guide assembly is a guide member and the second element is a stationary guide track, said guide member disposed for movement in said guide track.
- 18. The conveyor system of claim 17 wherein said first element of said guide assembly is one of a pendulum, pin, or roller.
- 19. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein the second element of the guide assembly has a varying vertical separation relative to the conveyor to selectively change the angular position of the carrier assembly.
- 20. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein said at least one conveyor consists of a single conveyor including said first drive segment, a first return segment, said second drive segment, and a second return segment.
- 21. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein said at least one conveyor includes at least two conveyors forming first and second closed loops, the first loop including said first drive segment, the second loop including said second drive segment, said first and second conveyor loops moving at the same speed.
- 22. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein said first drive segment includes a first linear segment and a first curve segment, wherein said second drive segment includes a second linear segment and a second curve segment, wherein said second drive segment includes a second linear segment and a second curve segment, wherein said first and second linear segments and said second curve segment having a first conveyance speed and said first curve segment having a second conveyance speed.
- 23. The conveyor system of claim 22 wherein said first curve segment has a first radius, said second curve segment has a second radius, said second radius being less than said first radius, and wherein said second speed is greater than said first speed.
- 24. The conveyor system of claim 22 wherein the second element of the guide assembly has a varying vertical separation relative to the conveyor to selectively change the angular position of the carrier assembly.
- 25. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein each of said first and second pendulums have a generally L-shape with a vertical arm and a leg extending laterally therefrom that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 26. The conveyor system of claim 14 wherein each of the first and second pendulums have a generally T-shape with a vertical arm and a lateral cross-member that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 27. A conveyor system for transporting articles along a treatment path comprising:
one or more conveyors defining a first drive segment and a second drive segment laterally spaced from and parallel to said first drive segment, said first segment having a first linear segment and a first curve segment, said second drive segment having a second linear segment and a second curve segment, said first and second linear segments and said second curve segment having a first conveyance speed, said first curve segment having a second conveyance speed; a plurality of first and second pendulums each coupled to move with said one or more conveyors, the first pendulums moving along said first drive segment and the second pendulums moving along said second drive segment, one of said first pendulums and one of said second pendulums defining an aligned and opposed pair of pendulums through the first and second drive segments.
- 28. The conveyor system of claim 27 wherein said first curve segment has a first radius, said second curve segment has a second radius, said second radius being less than said first radius, and said second conveyance speed is greater than said first conveyance speed.
- 29. The conveyor system of claim 27 wherein the one or more conveyors includes a first conveyor moving along said first linear segment at said first conveyance speed, a second conveyor moving along said second linear segment and said second curve segment at said first conveyance speed, and a third conveyor moving along said first curve segment at said second conveyance speed.
- 30. The conveyor system of claim 27 wherein each of said first and second pendulums have a generally L-shape with a vertical arm and a leg extending laterally therefrom that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 31. The conveyor system of claim 27 wherein each of the first and second pendulums have a generally T-shape with a vertical arm and a lateral cross-member that is adapted to couple the pendulum to a carrier assembly.
- 32. A pendulum for use with a conveyor system for transporting articles on a carrier assembly comprising:
a vertical arm; and a lateral leg extending from the vertical arm and adapted to couple the pendulum to the carrier assembly.
- 33. The pendulum of claim 32 having a generally L-shape with the lateral leg extending to only one side of the vertical arm.
- 34. The pendulum of claim 32 having a generally T-shape with a cross-member defining the lateral leg which extends in a first direction from the vertical arm and a second lateral leg extending in a second direction opposite the first direction, each of the lateral legs adapted to couple the pendulum to the carrier assembly.
