Claims
- 1. For use in a microwave oven, an invertible microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a heat generating member which includes a heat conductive metal grill having in contact with its reverse surface a microwave absorptive material; an imperforate, microwave transmissive bowl member having a rim engaged with said heat generating member; a steam confining chamber defined by said heat generating member and said bowl member; means to retain said heat generating member and said bowl member in engagement while the said apparatus is inverted; said bowl member being adapted in its rim-up position to confine food in contact with an inner surface thereof while said food is being heated; said inner surface within said bowl member being below but not in contact with said heat conductive metal grill; and said bowl member being further adapted in its rim-down position to confine vaporous cooking by-products from cooking food in contact with said heat conductive metal grill.
- 2. The cooking apparatus of claim 1 wherein the said heat generating member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 3. The cooking apparatus of claim 1 with said bowl member in its rim-down position, including an auxiliary pan member having a base resting on the said metal grill in heat transfer relationship and being entirely confined within the said steam-confining chamber.
- 4. The cooking apparatus of claim 3 wherein the said base of said auxiliary pan member which engages the said grill is provided with perforations.
- 5. The cooking apparatus of claim 1 wherein said bowl member has at least one handle member and said heat generating member has at least one handle member arranged in juxtaposition with the said at least one handle member of said bowl member to permit transport and inversion of said cooking apparatus as a unit.
- 6. The cooking apparatus of claim 1 wherein the said bowl member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 7. The cooking apparatus of claim 1 including an auxiliary imperforate metal pan having its base disposed within the said bowl member in its rim-up position and having a perforated metal pan member positioned above the said base of said imperforate metal pan member to define a microwave shielded chamber between the two said pans, said heat generating member positioned above the open top of said bowl member to define the said steam confining chamber.
- 8. The microwave cooking apparatus of claim 1 wherein said bowl member is in its rim-down position including means engagable with said metal grill for restricting location of a food to a selected location on said grill, said location comprising less than the cooking surface of said metal grill.
- 9. The microwave cooking apparatus of claim 8 wherein said means for restricting location of a food comprises a sleeve, open at each end and having a rim at each end, said sleeve having a first rim engaged with said cooking surface of said metal grill and having the second rim disposed above said grill.
- 10. The microwave cooking apparatus of claim 1 wherein said bowl member is in its rim-down position, including an auxiliary imperforate metal pan member having a base and a rim, said rim being engaged with the said metal grill within said steam confining chamber, whereby said auxiliary pan and the cooking surface of said metal grill define a microwave shielded heating chamber.
- 11. The microwave heating apparatus of claim 10 wherein the said bowl member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 12. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a heat generating member which includes a heat conductive metal grill having in contact with its reverse surface a microwave absorptive heating material; an imperforate, microwave transmissive bowl member having a rim; a collector assembly comprising a microwave transmissive pot, a metal pot engaged within said microwave transmissive pot and a perforated metal pan engaged within said metal pot, a sealing rim at the open end of said microwave transmissive pot; the said microwave transmissive bowl member having its said rim engaged with the said sealing rim of said microwave transmissive pot to define an enclosed chamber between said microwave transmissive bowl member and said microwave transmissive pot;
- the said microwave transmissive pot resting upon the said heat conductive metal grill of the said heat generating member.
- 13. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a heat generating member which includes a heat conductive grill having a cooking surface on one surface and on its reverse surface, a microwave absorptive material in contact with said reverse surface;
- a metal pan member having a base; a perforated metal pan member resting above said metal pan member to define a microwave shielded chamber between the two said metal pan members; said perforated metal pan member being adapted to receive food which is to be cooked; food which is to be cooked resting upon said perforated metal pan member;
- said heat generating member having its heat conductive metal grill resting upon the top member of said food to be cooked; and means to confine steam within said microwave-shielded chamber.
- 14. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave heating apparatus comprising:
- a heat generating member which includes a heat conductive grill having a cooking surface on its lower surface and on its reverse surface, a microwave absorptive material in contact with said reverse surface;
- a metal pan member having a base, a side wall and an upper rim, the upper rim confronting and engaging with the said heat conductive grill to define a microwave shielded chamber, said metal pan member adapted to support on its base, food to be cooked within said microwave shielded chamber, said generating member being disposed above said pan member; and
- means to confine steam within said microwave-shielded chamber.
- 15. For use in a microwave oven, an invertible microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a microwave absorptive heating member adapted to heat a food in contact therewith; an imperforate, microwave transmissive bowl member having a rim engaged with said microwave absorptive heating member; a steam-confining chamber defined by said microwave absorptive heating member and said microwave transmissive bowl member; means to retain said microwave absorptive heating member and said microwave transmissive bowl member in engagement while said apparatus is inverted; said microwave transmissive bowl member being adapted, in its rim-up position, to confine food in contact with an inner surface thereof while said food is being heated; said inner surface, within said bowl member, being below but not in contact with said microwave absorptive heating member; said bowl member being further adapted, in its rim-down position, to confine vaporous cooking by-products from food cooking in contact with said microwave absorptive heating member.
- 16. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 wherein the said microwave transmissive bowl member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 17. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 wherein the said microwave absorptive heating member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 18. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 wherein the said microwave absorptive heating member and said microwave transmissive bowl member weigh between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds each.
- 19. The cooking apparatus of claim 15, with said bowl member in its rim-down position, including an auxiliary metal pan member having a base resting on the said microwave absorptive heating member in heat transfer relationship and being entirely confined within the said steam-confining chamber.
- 20. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 wherein said microwave transmissive bowl member has at least one handle member and said microwave absorptive heating member has at least one handle member arranged in juxtaposition with the said at least one handle member of said microwave transmissive bowl member to permit transport and inversion of said cooking apparatus as a unit.
- 21. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 including an auxiliary imperforate metal pan having its base disposed within the said microwave transmissive bowl member in its rim-up position and including a perforated metal pan member positioned above the said base of said imperforate metal pan member to define a microwave shielded chamber between the two said metal pans, said microwave absorptive heating member positioned above the open top of said microwave transmissive bowl member to define the said steam confining chamber.
- 22. The cooking apparatus of claim 15 wherein said bowl member is in its rim-down position, including an auxiliary imperforate metal pan member having a base and a rim, said rim being engaged with the said microwave absorptive heating member within said steam confining chamber, whereby said auxiliary pan and a cooking surface of said microwave absorptive heating member define a heating chamber.
- 23. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a microwave absorptive heating member adapted to heat a food in contact therewith; an imperforate, microwave transmissive bowl member having a rim; a collector assembly comprising a microwave transmissive pot, a metal pot, engaged within said microwave transmissive pot, and a perforated metal pan engaged within said metal pot, a rim at the open end of said microwave transmissive pot; the said microwave transmissive bowl member having its rim engaged with said rim of said microwave transmissive pot to define an enclosed chamber between said microwave transmissive bowl member and said microwave transmissive pot,
- the said microwave transmissive pot resting upon the said microwave absorptive heating member.
- 24. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave cooking apparatus comprising:
- a microwave absorptive heating member adapted to heat a food in contact therewith on its lower surface;
- an imperforate metal pan member; a perforated metal pan member in contact with said metal pan member to define a microwave shielded chamber between the said pans; said perforated metal pan being adapted to receive food which is to be cooked; said food resting upon said perforated metal pan member; said microwave absorptive heating member positioned above and in contact with said food; and
- means to confine steam about said food to be cooked.
- 25. The cooking apparatus of claim 24 wherein the said microwave absorptive heating member weighs between 1.5 and 3.0 pounds.
- 26. For use in a microwave oven, a microwave heating apparatus comprising:
- a microwave absorptive heating member adapted to heat a food in contact therewith on its lower surface;
- a metal pan having a base, a side wall and an upper rim confronting and engaging with the said microwave absorptive heating member to define a chamber, said metal pan adapted to support on its base, food to be cooked; said metal pan shielding the bottom and sides of said food from direct exposure to microwave energy; said microwave absorptive heating member being positioned above said metal pan; and
- means to confine steam about said microwave-shielded chamber.
- 27. The microwave heating apparatus of claim 26 wherein said lower surface of said heating member is concave.
- 28. For use in a microwave oven, invertible microwave heating apparatus comprising:
- a round, microwave-absorptive heating member having a concave surface adapted to heat a food in contact therewith; a microwave-transmissive bowl member having a rim engaged with said concave surface of said microwave-absorptive heating member; a steam-confining chamber defined by said concave surface of said microwave-absorptive heating member and said microwave transmissive bowl member; means to retain said microwave absorptive heating member and said microwave transmissive bowl member in engagement while said apparatus is inverted; said microwave transmissive bowl member being adapted, in its rim-up position, to confine food in contact with an inner surface thereof while said food is being heated; said inner surface, within said bowl member, being below but not in contact with said microwave absorptive heating member; said bowl member being further adapted, in its rim-down position, to confine vaporous cooking by-products from food cooking in contact with said microwave absorptive heating member.
