Claims
- 1. A shade assembly comprising:
a roof shade assembly including:
a first array of reflective shade panels suspended in an operative position between approximately six inches and two feet above a roof of a building; and a second array of shade panels operative to form a shade box around at least one rooftop fixture; a wall assembly including: a third array of reflective shade panels in a position operative to shade at least one exterior wall of the building and spaced between approximately six inches and two feet away from the exterior wall; and a parking lot shade assembly including:
a fourth array of reflective shade panels in a position operative to both shade a parking lot adjacent to the building and allow use of the parking lot to park motor vehicles, wherein all reflective shade panels are at least approximately 25% reflective or provide at least approximately 30% shade factor.
- 2. A shade assembly comprising:
a first array of reflective shade panels suspended in an operative position above a roof of a building; and a shade box comprising a second array of shade panels, wherein the shade box is sized to cover at least one rooftop fixture.
- 3. The shade assembly of claim 1, wherein the first array of shade panels is suspended approximately six inches to two feet above the roof of the building.
- 4. The shade assembly of claim 1, wherein the first array of shade panels is suspended approximately six inches to one foot above the roof of the building.
- 5. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising reflective shade panels that are at least approximately 25% reflective or provide at least approximately 30% shade factor.
- 6. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising reflective shade panels that are at least approximately 65% reflective or provide at least approximately 60% shade factor.
- 7. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising reflective shade panels that are white, silver or beige.
- 8. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising fabric shade panels.
- 9. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising non-fabric non-woven shade panels.
- 10. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a first support assembly operative to suspend the first array of reflective shade panels above the roof.
- 11. The shade assembly of claim 10 wherein the first support assembly further comprises:
cables operably attached to a parapet wall or support posts by anchors; and fasteners operable to attach the shade panels to the cables.
- 12. The shade assembly of claim 11 further comprising spring anchors operable to facilitate rooftop access.
- 13. The shade assembly of claim 11 further comprising collapsible anchors operable to facilitate roof access.
- 14. The shade assembly of claim 11 further comprising detachable anchors to facilitate removal of the first support assembly.
- 15. The shade assembly of claim 11 further comprising lightweight polymer blocks placed beneath the cables to provide support for the cables.
- 16. The shade assembly of claim 10 wherein the first support assembly further comprises:
an array of upright support posts placed upon the roof; and retention mechanisms operable to attach the shade panels to the upright support posts.
- 17. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising an unshaded area of the roof to allow roof access.
- 18. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a third array of reflective shade panels in an operative position between approximately 0 and 6 inches above a region of the roof to allow roof access.
- 19. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a third array of reflective shade panels located beneath and substantially parallel to the first array of shade panels.
- 20. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising:
a second array of dark shade panels; and at least one spray nozzle coupled to a water distribution system operable to dispense water substantially onto the dark shade panels.
- 21. The shade assembly of claim 20 further comprising a controller operable to regulate the water distribution system.
- 22. The shade assembly of claim 21 further comprising an electronic programmable controller or a computer-controlled building management program.
- 23. The shade assembly of claim 22 further comprising at least one sensor mounted on the roof wherein the sensor provides information to the controller used to regulate the water distribution system.
- 24. The shade assembly of claim 23 further comprising at least one sensor selected form the group consisting of temperature sensors, humidity sensors, pyranometers, rain or moisture gauges, and wind speed sensors.
- 25. The shade assembly of claim 22 further comprising a source providing local weather information to the controller wherein the weather information is used to regulate the water distribution system.
- 26. The shade assembly of claim 21 further comprising a manual controller.
- 27. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a second array of fabric shade panels.
- 28. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a second array of non-fabric or non-woven shade panels.
- 29. The shade assembly of claim 2 further comprising a second support assembly operative to form the shade box.
- 30. The shade assembly of claim 29 wherein the second support assembly further comprises:
support post attached in an operable position to the rooftop fixture or a fixture support platform; cables operable attached to the support posts; and fasteners operable to attach the shade panels to the cables.
- 31. The shade assembly of claim 29 further comprising a second support assembly operable to allow at least one side of the shade box to pivot outward for access to the rooftop fixture.
- 32. A shade assembly comprising an array of reflective shade panels in a position operative to shade at least one exterior wall of a building, wherein the shade assembly covers substantially all of the wall.
- 33. The shade assembly of claim 32 wherein the array of reflective shade panels is suspended approximately 6 inches to 2 feet from the wall of the building.
- 34. The shade assembly of claim 32 wherein the array of reflective shade panels is suspended approximately 6 inches to 1 foot from the wall of the building.
- 35. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising reflective shade panels are disposed at an angle with the wall of the building.
- 36. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising reflective shade panels that are at least approximately 25% reflective or provide at least approximately 30% shade factor.
- 37. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising reflective shade panels that are white, silver or beige.
- 38. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising fabric shade panels.
- 39. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising non-fabric or non-woven shade panels.
- 40. The shade assembly of claim 32 further comprising a support assembly operable to position the array of reflective shade panels to shade the wall.
- 41. The shade assembly of claim 40 wherein the support assembly further comprises:
cables operably attached at one end to the roof or upper wall and at the other end to the ground by anchors; and fasteners operable to attach the shade panels to the cables.
- 42. The shade assembly of claim 40 wherein the support assembly further comprises:
a scaffold; and fasteners operable to attach the shade panels to the scaffold.
- 43. A shade assembly comprising an array of reflective shade panels in a position operative to both shade a parking lot and allow use of the parking lot to park motor vehicles, wherein the shade assembly covers substantially all of the parking lot.
- 44. The shade assembly of claim 43 wherein the parking lot is retail facility parking lot.
- 45. The shade assembly of claim 43 further comprising reflective shade panels that are at least approximately 25% reflective or provide at least approximately 30% shade factor.
- 46. The shade assembly of claim 43 further comprising reflective shade panels that are white, beige or silver.
- 47. The shade assembly of claim 43 further comprising fabric shade panels.
- 48. The shade assembly of claim 43 further comprising non-fabric of non-woven shade panels.
- 49. The shade assembly of claim 47 further comprising water permeable shade panels.
- 50. The shade assembly of claim 49 further comprising the water permeable shade panels in a substantially horizontal position.
- 51. The shade assembly of claim 43 further comprising a support assembly operable to position the shade panels to shade the parking lot and allow use of the parking lot to park motor vehicles.
- 52. The shade assembly of claim 51 wherein the support assembly further comprises:
upright support members; cables operably attached to the upright support members; and fasteners operable to attach the shade panels to the cables.
- 53. The shade assembly of claim 52 further comprising the upright support members selected from the group consisting of trees, light poles and other poles with additional utilities.
- 54. A method of obtaining governmental or corporate environmental incentives comprising:
providing a shade assembly suspended above a roof of a building wherein the shade assembly reduces the energy consumption of the building and includes:
a first array of reflective shade panels suspended in an operative position above the roof; and a shade box comprising a second array of shade panels, wherein the shade box is sized to cover at least one rooftop fixture; and applying for an environmental incentive with a governmental or corporate body.
- 55. The method of claim 54 further comprising providing a shade assembly operable to shade substantially all of at least one exterior wall of the building.
- 56. The method of claim 54 further comprising applying for a carbon reduction credit.
- 57. The method of claim 54 comprising applying for a U.S. government energy star rating for the building.
- 58. The method of claim 54 comprising applying for a certification of the building as a zero net energy building.
- 59. The method of claim 54 comprising applying for a tax incentive.
- 60. A method of generating public goodwill comprising:
providing a shade assembly suspended above a roof of a building wherein the shade assembly reduces the energy consumption of the building and includes:
a first array of reflective shade panels suspended in an operative position above the roof; and a shade box comprising a second array of shade panels, wherein the shade box is sized to cover at least one rooftop fixture; and advertising the presence of the shade assembly and its beneficial effects to the public.
- 61. A method of complying with an environmental regulation comprising:
providing a shade assembly suspended above a roof of a building wherein the shade assembly reduces the energy consumption of the building and includes:
a first array of reflective shade panels suspended in an operative position above the roof; and a shade box comprising a second array of shade panels, wherein the shade box is sized to cover at least one rooftop fixture.
