Claims
- 1. A liquid change-over apparatus for replacing a first liquid with a second liquid in a cooling system of a vehicle having an engine with an upper engine hose section attached thereto, and a radiator with an upper radiator hose section attached thereto, said apparatus comprising:
- a) a tubular body having a first end configured to be in fluid communication with the upper radiator hose section and a second end configured to be in fluid communication with the upper engine hose section;
- b) an ingress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said first end to provide a passageway through which the second liquid is admitted to the cooling system;
- c) an egress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said second end to provide a passageway through which the first liquid is evacuated from the cooling system; and
- d) a fluid regulator disposed in said tubular body between said ingress tube and said egress tube, said regulator adjustable between a closed position and an open position to allow the regulated passage of fluid through said tubular body.
- 2. The liquid change-over apparatus as recited in claim 1, further comprising means for preventing fluid passage through said ingress tube and said egress tube.
- 3. A process for the change-over of a first liquid with a second liquid in a cooling system in a vehicle of the type having an engine, a radiator, and an upper hose attached there between, the process utilizing a liquid change-over apparatus of the type including a tubular body having a first end and a second end, an ingress tube depending from the tubular body proximate the first end, an egress tube depending from the tubular body proximate the second end, and a fluid regulator disposed in the tubular body between the ingress tube and the egress tube, the process comprising the steps of:
- a) cutting the upper hose of the cooling system of the vehicle when the engine is not rotating to provide an upper radiator hose section and an upper engine hose section;
- b) providing the liquid change-over apparatus for attachment to the upper radiator hose section and the upper engine hose section;
- c) attaching the first end of the liquid change-over apparatus to the upper radiator hose section;
- d) attaching the second end of the liquid change-over apparatus to the upper engine hose section;
- e) providing a volume of the second liquid to the ingress tube of the liquid change-over apparatus;
- f) providing a liquid collecting means at the egress tube of the liquid change-over apparatus; and
- g) rotating the engine until the volume of the second liquid has displaced a substantially equivalent volume of the first liquid from the cooling system to the liquid collection means.
- 4. The process recited in claim 3, further comprising the step of stopping rotation of the engine and replacing the liquid change-over apparatus with flow connecting means to provide for flow of the liquid in the cooling system from the upper engine hose section to the upper radiator hose section.
- 5. A liquid change-over apparatus for replacing a first liquid with a second liquid in a cooling system of a vehicle having an engine with an upper engine hose section attached thereto, and a radiator with an upper radiator hose section attached thereto, said apparatus comprising:
- a) a tubular body formed generally in the shape of an inverted U and having a first end portion extending substantially perpendicular to the first leg of said body and a second end portion extending substantially perpendicular to the second leg of said body, said first end portion configured to be in fluid communication with the upper radiator hose section and said second end portion configured to be in fluid communication with the upper engine hose section;
- b) an ingress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said first end portion to provide a passageway through which the second liquid is admitted to the cooling system;
- c) an egress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said second end portion to provide a passageway through which the first liquid is evacuated from the cooling system; and
- d) means disposed in said tubular body between said ingress tube and said egress tube for preventing the flow of liquid there between.
- 6. The liquid change-over apparatus as recited in claim 5, wherein said flow preventing means comprises a fluid regulator adjustable between a closed position and an open position thereby allowing the regulated passage of fluid through said tubular body.
- 7. The liquid change-over apparatus as recited in claim 5, further comprising means for preventing fluid passage through said ingress tube and said egress tube.
- 8. A liquid change-over apparatus for replacing a first liquid with a second liquid in a cooling system of a vehicle having an engine with an upper engine hose section attached thereto, and a radiator with an upper radiator hose section attached thereto, said apparatus comprising:
- a) a tubular body having a first end configured to be in fluid communication with the upper radiator hose section and a second end configured to be in fluid communication with the upper engine hose section;
- b) an ingress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said first end to provide a fluid passageway through which the second liquid is admitted to the cooling system;
- c) an egress tube depending from said tubular body and proximate said second end to provide a fluid passageway through which the first liquid is evacuated from the cooling system; and
- d) a fixed barrier disposed in said tubular body between the ingress tube and the egress tube, said fixed barrier preventing fluid communication there between.
