Claims
- 1. A copolymer of about one part by mole maleic anhydride and about one part by mole polymerizable component of naphtha oil containing at least 5 wt % of a polymerizable component that comprises essentially of the following components (a), (b) and (c) whose contents are indicate by eight percentages:
- (a) 70-90 wt % of indene;
- (b) 0.5-29.5 wt % of styrene; and
- (c) 0.5-29.5 wt % in total of one or more compounds selected from among alpha-methylstyrene, methylstyrene, methylindene, dimethylstyrene, trimethylstyrene, coumarone and dicyclopentadiene, wherein a total content of styrene and a styrene derivative of the copolymer is 25 mol % or less.
- 2. A process for producing a copolymer of about one part by mole maleic anhydride and about one part by mole polymerizable component of naphtha oil by performing radical polymerization reaction between maleic anhydride and the polymerizable component of naphtha oil containing at least 5 wt % of a polymerizable component that comprises essentially of the following components (a), (b) and (c) whose contents are indicated by weight percentges:
- (a) 70-99 wt % of indene;
- (b) 0.5-29.5 wt % of styrene; and
- (c) 0.5-29.5 wt % in total of one or more compounds selected from among alpha-methylstyrene, methylstyrene, methylindene, dimethylstyrene, trimethylstyrene, coumarone and dicyclopentdiene, wherein a total content of styrene and a styrene derivative of the copolymer is 25 mol % or less.
- 3. A process according to claim 2 by using a precipitating solvent for recovery which is at least one member selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbon oils, naphthenic hydrocarbon oils and ligroin.
- 4. A process according to claim 2 which comprises performing radical polymerization reaction between maleic anhydride and the naphtha oil, said process using a reaction solvent that dissolves said naphtha oil and maleic anhydride and which has only small ability to dissolve said polymer, with no precipitating solvent for recovery being used.
- 5. A process according to claim 4 wherein said reaction solvent is benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene or cumene.
- 6. A resin modifier containing the copolymer of claim 1 as an effective ingredient.
- 7. A resin composition comprising the copolymer of claim 1 and a thermoplastic resin.
