Claims
- 1. A method for improving the flow properties of a thermoplastic composition or for reducing the tendency of the thermoplastic composition to stick to a metallic component of a processing machine, comprising the step of:
- adding to the thermoplastic composition a copolymer comprising
- 20 to 99.5 parts by weight of units which are derived form a C.sub.12 -C.sub.60 -.alpha.-olefin,
- 0.5 to 50 parts by weight of units which are derived from a carboxylic acid of the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sup.1 --COOH,
- 0.1 to 60 parts by weight of units which are derived a carboxylic acid ester of the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sup.1 --COOR.sup.2, in which formulae R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R.sup.2 is a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and
- 0.0 to 30 parts by weight of units which are derived from styrene, 3-methylstyrene, 4-methylstyrene or .alpha.-methylstyrene.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the amount of the copolymer added to 0.05 to 5% by weight, based on the thermoplastic composition.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the thermoplastic is in the molten state when it is caused to flow or when it is processed by a said processing machine.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 1, in which the .alpha.-olefin is a C.sub.18 to C.sub.60 -.alpha.-olefin.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 1, in which the .alpha.-olefin is a C.sub.24 to C.sub.60 -.alpha.-olefin.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 1, in which the carboxylic acid ester of the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sup.1 --COOR.sup.2 is an ester wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R.sup.2 is a methyl or an ethyl group.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said C.sub.12 -C.sub.60 -.alpha.-olefin contains internal and lateral olefinic double bonds.
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said C.sub.12 -C.sub.60 -.alpha.-olefin is a mixture of olefins.
