This gives an aesthetically pleasing appearance as there is no visible gap between the primary corner pieces 100 and the bottom edges of the above and adjacent shake shingle impressions of the siding panels 401 on the first wall 502 unlike the siding system in FIG. 7. The top edges 224 of the panels of the secondary corner pieces 200 may already be aligned with the bottom edges of the siding panels 402 on the second wall without necessitating a field modifiable fill strip as a result of the installation process as detailed below.

While corner piece 100 and secondary corner piece 200 are adapted to cover an outside corner of a structure, it will be understood that primary and secondary corner pieces can be configured to cover an inside corner of a structure where two walls meet to form an inside or interior corner.

Method of Installation

The aforementioned systems can be applied to structures using the following steps.

A first plurality of siding panels 401 can be provided and fastened to the first wall 502 and a second plurality of siding panels 402 can be provided and fastened to the second wall 503. The panels can include a number of shake shingle impressions having variable contours such that the location of the bottom edge of each shake shingle impression varies relative to the top edge of the siding panels. The first plurality of siding panels 401 can be fastened to the first wall 502 starting from an end of the wall opposite corner 501 away from wall 502; the second plurality of siding panels 402 can be fastened to the second wall 503 starting from an end of the wall adjacent corner 501 and wall 502. After the siding panels 401 and 402 are fastened to the first and second walls 502 and 503, primary and secondary corner pieces can be applied to the corner 501 where the first and second walls 502 and 503 meet. The corner pieces can be applied from the bottom, alternating between primary and secondary pieces to give a staggered appearance.

Some of the siding panels or the first plurality 401 are terminated adjacent to the structure corner 501 due to starting from the opposite end of the wall. The height of the bottom edge of the shake shingle impressions where the panels 401 terminate adjacent to the structure corner 501 can vary due to the varying width of structure walls and the variable contours of the shingle shake impressions. As shown in FIG. 7, the variable contours of the shake shingle impressions where panels terminate adjacent a structure corner can cause aesthetically disruptive gaps between corner pieces and above and adjacent shingle shake impressions. The disruptive gaps can be filled in with field modifiable fill strips 150 present on the primary corner pieces 100 of the present invention. The field modifiable fill strips 150 can be modified by removing a portion of the field modifiable fill strips 150 such that the top edge 151 of the field modifiable fill strip is aligned with a bottom edge of a shake shingle impression of the first plurality of siding panels 401 above and adjacent to the primary corner pieces 100. These disruptive gaps are typically not present on the second wall 503 as the second plurality of siding panels 402 are applied starting from corner 501 and accordingly the length of the shake shingle impressions of panels 402 immediately adjacent the structure corner 501 does not depend on the width of the wall. Accordingly, the secondary corner pieces 200 do not usually need field modifiable fill strips as their top edge can be configured to align with the above and adjacent shake shingle impression of panel 402. However, in an alternative embodiment, the secondary corner pieces may include field modifiable fill strips that may be modified by removing a portion of the second field modifiable fill strips of the secondary corner pieces such that the top edge of the field modifiable fill strip is aligned with a bottom edge of a shake shingle impression of the second plurality of siding panels above and adjacent to the secondary corner pieces. Removing a portion of the field modifiable fill strips can include cutting away a portion of the field modifiable field strip, with, optionally, a utility knife.
