Claims
- 1. A lubricant composition comprising: a major proportion of a lubricating medium selected from the group consisting of oils of lubricating viscosity and greases thereof; and, in an amount sufficient to inhibit metal corrosion, a compound having the formula: ##STR4##
- 2. A composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said lubricating medium comprises a mineral oil-based composition.
- 3. A composition as defined in claim 1, wherein said lubricating medium comprises a synthetic oil-based composition.
- 4. A composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said lubricating medium comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity in the range from about 45 SSU at 100.degree. F. to about 6000 SSU at 100.degree. F.
- 5. A composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said lubricating medium comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity in the range from about 50 SSU at 210.degree. F. to about 250 SSU at 210.degree. F.
- 6. A composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said metal corrosion-inhibiting compound is present in an amount from about 0.1 to about 1.0%, by weight.
- 7. A composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said metal corrosion-inhibiting compound is present in an amount from 0.1% to about 0.5%, by weight.
- 8. A process which comprises reacting oleic acid and 2,5-dimercapto--1,3,4-thiadiazole at a temperature from about 150.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. and in a mole ratio of 1:1.

This application is a continuation-in-part of copending application Ser. No. 572,480, filed Apr. 28, 1975, now abandoned which in turn is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 377,004, filed July 6, 1973, and now abandoned.
