Claims
- 1. A cosmetic composition for applying a pigmented, semi-permanent crosslinked film on skin, eyelashes, lips, or hair comprising:(a) a film-forming polymer having functional groups capable of cross-linking upon exposure to a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups, (b) a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups of the film-forming polymer, (c) a dissipatable blocking agent which (i) is operable prior to dissipation, to block the cross-linking agent from cross-linking the functional groups of the film-forming polymer, and which, (ii) after dissipation, leaves the cross-linking agent free to cross-link the functional groups of the film-forming polymer; and (d) at least one color component.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the functional groups of the film-forming polymer are carboxylic acid, hydroxyl, or mixtures thereof.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the film-forming polymer is comprised of monomers selected from the group consisting of: wherein R1 is H or a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; R2 is H or a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; and M is a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl which is unsubstituted, or substituted with one or more substitutents which are hydroxyl, halogen, carboxyl, acetoacetoxy, or combinations thereof; pyrrolidone, or a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic, alicylic, or bicyclic ring where the substitutents are C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the cross-linking agent is an aliphatic or aromatic dihydric alcohol, an alphatic or aromatic polyol, a metal ion having a coordination number ranging from 2 to 4, amine, or mixtures thereof.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the dissipatable blocking agent comprises a cosmetically acceptable carrier phase comprising a solvent.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein the solvent in the carrier phase is a volatile solvent.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 which is a lipcolor composition comprising 1-80% of the cross-linkable film forming polymer, 0.1-70% of the cross-linking agent, and 0.001-40% of the blocking agent, about 0-70% wax, 0-60% oil, and 0-50% particulate matter, all percentages by weight of the total composition.
- 8. The composition of claim 7 comprising 10-50% by weight of the total composition of oil.
- 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein the oil is selected from the group consisting of volatile oil, nonvolatile oil, and mixtures thereof.
- 10. The composition of claim 7 further comprising 7-45% by weight of particulate matter comprising pigments, powders, or mixtures thereof which provide color to the composition.
- 11. The composition of claim 10 wherein the pigments are organic pigments, inorganic pigments, or mixtures thereof.
- 12. The composition of claim 7 further comprising 1-30% by weight of a wax.
- 13. The composition of claim 1 which is a mascara composition.
- 14. The composition of claim 13 further comprising 0.1-50% oil and 0.1-50% particulate matter.
- 15. The composition of claim 14 wherein the oil is a volatile oil, nonvolatile oil, or mixtures thereof.
- 16. The composition of claim 14 wherein the particulate matter comprises pigments, powders, or mixtures thereof.
- 17. The composition of claim 16 wherein the pigments are organic pigments.
- 18. The composition of claim 1 which is a foundation makeup.
- 19. The composition of claim 18 wherein the foundation is an emulsion comprising 10-95% water, and 0-95% oil.
- 20. The composition of claim 1 which is an anhydrous color cosmetic comprising blush, concealer, or eyeshadow.
- 21. The composition of claim 20 wherein the anhydrous color cosmetic comprises 1-95% particulate matter and 0.5-30% oil.
- 22. A mascara composition which applies a pigmented, semi-permanent crosslinked film on the eyelashes comprising:(a) a film-forming polymer having functional groups capable of cross-linking upon exposure to a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups, (b) a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups of the film-forming polymer, (c) a dissipatable blocking agent which (i) is operable prior to dissipation, to block the cross-linking agent from cross-linking the functional groups of the film-forming polymer, and which, (ii) after dissipation, leaves the cross-linking agent free to cross-link the functional groups of the film-forming polymer, wherein the dissipatable blocking agent comprises a cosmetically acceptable carrier phase containing a solvent; and (d) at least one color component.
- 23. The mascara composition of claim 22 wherein the color component comprises organic pigments.
- 24. The mascara composition of claim 22 further comprising an oil which is a nonvolatile oil, a volatile oil, or mixtures thereof.
- 25. A lip color composition comprising:(a) a film-forming polymer having functional groups capable of cross-linking upon exposure to a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups, (b) a cross-linking agent reactive with said functional groups of the film-forming polymer, (c) a dissipatable blocking agent which (i) is operable prior to dissipation, to block the cross-linking agent from cross-linking the functional groups of the film-forming polymer, and which, (ii) after dissipation, leaves the cross-linking agent free to cross-link the functional groups of the film-forming polymer wherein the dissipatable blocking agent comprises a cosmetically acceptable carrier phase comprising a solvent; and (d) at least one color component.
- 26. The lipcolor composition of claim 25 wherein the film forming polymer is comprised of monomers selected from the group consisting of: wherein R1 is H or a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; R2 is H or a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; and M is a C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl which is unsubstituted, or substituted with one or more substitutents which are hydroxyl, halogen, carboxyl, acetoacetoxy, or combinations thereof; pyrrolidone, or a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic, alicylic, or bicyclic ring where the substitutents are C1-30 straight or branched chain alkyl.
- 27. The lip color of claim 25 wherein the film forming polymer contains acrylate or methacrylate monomers.
- 28. The lip color of claim 25 wherein the film forming polymer contains vinyl monomers.
- 29. The lip color of claim 25 wherein the film forming polymer contains acrylate, methacrylate, or acrylic acid monomers copolymerized with acryloxy substituted silicones.
- 30. The lip color of claim 25 wherein the cross-linking agent comprises aliphatic or aromatic dihydric alcohol or polyols, polymeric polyols, ethers, amines, alcohols, or mixtures thereof.
- 31. The lip color of claim 25 wherein the solvent is a volatile silicone, volatile hydrocarbon, or mixtures thereof.
