- 14. The cosmetic composition of claim 11 where the particulates have been surface treated in the absence of a carrier through the use of a neat alkylphosphonic acid.
- 15. The cosmetic composition of claim 11 where the alkylphosphonic acid surface treatments on said particulates is present at a level of 2-20 μmoles/m2.
- 16. The cosmetic composition of claim 11 where the cosmetic composition is characterized as being one of either a water-in-oil emulsion, an oil-in water emulsion, a foundation, an eyeshadow, a blush, a mascara, an eyeliner, a skin treatment, a sunscreen, a nail enamel, a lipstick, or a loosed or pressed powder.
- 17. The cosmetic composition of claim 11 where the particulates are comprised of one or more pigments or fillers, wherein said one or more pigments or fillers is selected from various forms of titanium dioxide, ferric oxide and its hydrates, ferrous oxide and its hydrates, chromium oxide, chromium hydroxide, ferric ferrocyanide, zinc oxide, aluminum oxide, aluminum trihydrate, silica, metal oxide coated silica, manganese violet, talc, mica, metal oxide coated micas, expanding clays, kaolin, ultramarines, sericite, metal oxide coated. sericite, natural pigments, lakes of organic colorants, pearlescent pigments, polymeric particulates, and composite flake pigments.
- 18. A method of preparing a cosmetic composition comprising a plurality of particulates, the method comprising:
a) at least partially surface treating at least some of the plurality of particulates with one or more organophosphonic acids; and b) mixing, blending, or dispersing the particulates together with any remaining ingredients of the cosmetic composition.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein said organophosphonic acid surface treated particulates from a) are dispersed during b) into the oil phase of a water-in-oil or oil-in-water cosmetic composition, and where said oil phase dispersion is then mixed, blended, or dispersed together with the remaining ingredients of the cosmetic composition.
- 20. The method of claim 18 wherein said organophosphonic acid surface treated particulates are surface treated in a) through the use of either a water based vehicle, an alcohol based vehicle, an alcohol/water blend, or a neat organophosphonic acid.
- 21. The method of claim 18 wherein said organophosphonic acid surface treated particulates as prepared in a) are determined to be lipophilic prior to the execution of b).
