DETAILED DESCRIPTION
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the organizer 10 of the present invention in an unopened state. FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the organizer 10 shown in FIG. 1 of the present invention in a closed state. The organizer 10 includes a body 12, a cover 14, a base 16 and a plurality of cosmetic applicators (not shown). In a preferred embodiment, the cosmetic applicators are make-up brushes. The organizer 10 itself is also a make-up brush that can be used as such. The body 12 has an interior region 20 (see FIG. 2) and an external wall 22 surrounding the interior region. The body 12 also has a proximal end 24 and a distal end 26. The cover 14 is fabricated for releasable attachment to the proximal end 24 of the body 12.
Preferably, the cover 14 has an exterior surface 28 on which is located a brush head 30. The base 16 is fabricated for releasable attachment to the distal end 26 of the body 12. The cosmetic applicators 18 are housed within the interior region 20 of the body 12 where they are protected from external damage by the body 12 and the base 16 and cover 14 when they are attached to the body 12. In a preferred embodiment, a palette 32 (see FIG. 2) is located in the interior region 20 of the body 12. As shown, it may be a removable piece or alternatively, it may be formed as an integral part of the interior region 20 of the body 12. The palette 32 has a plurality of differently sized holes 34, 36, 38, 40 designed to match the width of a brush handle that is placed through the hole so that a plurality of different brushes can be housed in the interior region 20 of the body 12. While four holes are illustrated, the palette 32 may have more or less depending on its application. Shown in the illustrated palette is a large hole 34 preferably for a brush such as a foundation brush. Smaller holes 36, 38, 40 adapt to smaller brushes such as eyeshadow, eyebrow and concealer brushes, for example.
The cover 14 and base 16 can be fabricated to be screwed onto the respective ends of the body 12, or snap fitted or friction fitted thereon or any other mechanism for joining the pieces together. In particular, the cover 14 has a section 18 that fits inside the body in a concentric arrangement. In a preferred embodiment, as illustrated, the body 12 is cylindrical in shape.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the organizer 110 of the present invention in an unopened state and FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the organizer 110 shown in FIG. 3 in an open state. In this preferred embodiment, the body 112 of the organizer 110 is formed as two substantially identical halves 114, 116 that each have a first edge 118 and a second edge 120 where the first edges 118 are permanently joined together and the second edges 120 are not. A securing mechanism 122 secures the second edges 120 together in a first state (shown in FIG. 3) and releases the second edges 120 in a second state (shown in FIG. 4). The securing mechanism 122 may be a latch-type device as is well known to those of ordinary skill in the art. The base 116 and cover 114 may be removably attached to the body 112 or they may be a nonremovable feature. To gain access to the applicators 18 in the interior region of the body 112, the securing mechanism 122 is opened to release the second edges 120 of the halves from each other so that the body 112 can be opened like a clam shell. A palette (not shown) may also be used with this embodiment.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the organizer 210 of the present invention in an unopened state and FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the organizer 210 shown in FIG. 5 in an open state. In this preferred embodiment, the body 212 of the organizer 210 is formed in two halves, a proximal half 224 and a distal half 226. Preferably, the proximal half includes the cover 214 as an integral part thereof and the distal half includes the base 216 as an integral part thereof. Otherwise, they may be separate pieces detachable from the body 212. A securing mechanism secures the proximal and distal half's together. The securing mechanism may be a latch-type device as is well known to those of ordinary skill in the art. Alternatively, it may be a snap-type connection or a screw-type connection. To gain access to the applicators in the interior region of the body 212, the proximal half is detached from the distal half. A palette may also be used with this embodiment.
The organizer 10, 110, 210 may be made of metal, plastic or other suitable material. Preferably, it has a length ranging from about 12 inches to about 7 inches and preferably it is about 9.5 inches. If the organizer is made of a separate base 16, cover 14 and body 12, the base 16 may have a length of about 2 inches, the cover 14 may have a length of about 3 inches and the body 12 may have a length of about 4.5 inches. Its width ranges from about 2 inches to about 5 inches. The width of the body 212 need not be constant throughout the length of the body 212 but may be narrowed or expanded. The material of the organizer 10, 110, 210 may be any color and texture imaginable.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of the organizer shown in FIG. 5.
FIG. 8 is a perspective view of the distal half of the organizer shown in FIG. 5. A portion of the proximal half of the body is slid over a portion of the distal half in a telescoping fit. As seen in FIG. 7, a rim may be provided on an exterior surface of the distal half and a complementary groove may be formed on an interior surface of the proximal half so that they are coupled together by the rim and groove and may be separated from one another by pulling the halves apart. Preferably, a palette is located in the distal half to old the make-up brushes in a predefined arrangement. Alternatively, no palette need be included and the make-up brushes may be loosely held in the body.
FIG. 9 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the organizer 310 of the present invention in an unopened state.
FIG. 10 is a perspective view of the organizer 310 shown in FIG. 7 in an open state. In the preferred embodiment, a removable distal cap 316 is provided at the body's distal end to gain access to the interior of the body 312. The cap 316 may be coupled to the body 312 in any fashion such as snap fitted or screwed on, for example, or it may have a telescoping fit as described with reference to the embodiments shown in FIGS. 5-8. The proximal end of the body has a make-up brush thereon. A palette such as that described with reference to the previous figures, may be provided in the interior of the cap 316 so that when the cap 316 is removed from the body, the plurality of brushes have ends fitted in the palette located in the cap 316 so that when the cap is removed, so are the brushes and they are kept in an organized manner by the palette. Alternatively, instead of a removable distal cap, the proximal end of the brush may be removable to gain access to the interior of the body.
