Claims
- 1. An isolated gene that is expressed during the formation or elongation of cotton fibers and that hybridizes to SEQ ID NO: 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 in the presence of: 50% formamide; 0.5% SDS; 6.times.SSPE; 5.times.Denhardt solution; and 50 .mu.g denatured salmon sperm DNA at 42.degree. C., followed by washing with a solution containing 0.1.times.SSC at 42.degree. C., wherein said gene is isolated from ovules or fibers of a cotton plant.
- 2. C., wherein said gene is isolated from a cotton plant.
- 3. An isolated DNA molecule comprising an anti-sense sequence to the gene of claim 1 or 2.
- 4. A recombinant vector comprising the gene of claim 1 or 2 or comprising an anti-sense sequence to said gene.
- 5. A transgenic plant obtained by transforming a plant cell with a recombinant vector comprising the gene of claim 1 or 2, or comprising an anti-sense sequence to said gene, resulting in a transformed plant cell, and regenerating a transgenic plant from the transformed plant cell.
- 6. A method for producing cotton fibers, which comprises transforming a cotton cell with a recombinant vector comprising the gene of claim 1 or 2, or comprising an anti-sense sequence to said gene, resulting in a transformed cotton cell, regenerating a transgenic cotton plant from the transformed cotton cell, cultivating the transgenic cotton plant to produce cotton bolls, and collecting cotton fibers from the cotton bolls.
