Claims
- 1. An apparatus for continuous processing of product with microwave energy comprising:
a conveyor for carrying product through the apparatus; a first microwave waveguide processing section, having a center longitudinal axis, and juxtaposed such that the conveyor carries the product there through; a second microwave waveguide processing section, also having a center longitudinal axis, and also juxtaposed such that the conveyor carrier the product there through, with the longitudinal axes of the first and second waveguide at processing sections being offset in at least one direction so that the product is exposed to a first microwave energy profile when traveling through the first section, and then exposed to a second microwave energy profile when traveling through the second section.
- 2. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the microwave energy profile of the first and second sections is of a complimentary shape.
- 3. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the offset between the first and second processing sections is one half the width of the waveguides.
- 4. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the first and second processing sections are fed from respective feeder waveguides.
- 5. An apparatus as in claim 4 wherein the feeder waveguides are positioned along the longitudinal axes of the processing waveguides.
- 6. An apparatus as in claim 5 wherein holes are formed along an adjacent side wall between the feeder waveguide and the processing waveguide.
- 7. An apparatus as in claim 5 wherein an attenuator section is positioned adjacent to a point where the first processing section couples to the second processing section.
- 8. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the first and second processing sections operate in a TE10 mode.
- 9. An apparatus as in claim 8 wherein the microwave energy profile of the first and second processing sections is sinusoidal in shape.
- 10. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the first and section processing sections have an identical cross sectional shape.
- 11. An apparatus as in claim 10 wherein the amount of microwave energy applied to the respective feeder sections is adjusted so that the total energy applied to the product traveling in the first processing section is a mirror of the energy applied to the second processing section in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axes.
- 12. An apparatus as in claim 5 wherein a common wall is removed between the feeder waveguide and the processing waveguide.
- 13. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the processing waveguides are oriented in the E-plane with respect to the product.
